Deutz 150.6 and M620 4wd drive problems

A friend has asked me to post on here for help with his two deutz, both are having 4wd problems.

150.6- The 4wd is always engaged, the switch turns the light on the dash off and on but that’s it. We are assuming that the solenoid needs power to hold her out of 4wd, so would it be the solenoid need replacing? Not enough power going to solenoid? Some other issue?

M620- comes in and out of 4wd as it pleases. Sometimes when you Press the button for 4wd it works straight away, sometimes it won’t work and will turn on 5 mins later. Would the switch be at fault?

Thanks in advance (y)

150.6:
Good size test bulb (21W) down at the solenoid, see will it light up in 2WD.
If you have power for the bulb, investigate the solenoid further (resistance check).

M620:
Could be switch or maybe relay, not disconnecting.
Best check your fuse box diagram for a relay location.

See how you get on .............

On the 620 it will be the solenoid most likely, mines had 3, last one we had from a McCormick dealer and it's a granit part as a posed to a genuine part and has been in over 2 years now , originals seem to only do a year, and the granit one was less than half the price,

I have a note of the granit part number somewhere, I'll have a look for it later (y)

Are the brake lights working on the 150? I have a vague recollection of having a similar problem with an Agrotron 13 or 14 years ago, I seem to remember it was a fuse, and it was diagnosed as such because the brake lights were on the same one.

RE 150.6 - this could be worst case scenario but have you checked the 4wd shaft for wear where it slides stub shaft coming out of the gearbox? If these splines havnt been greased regularly, the friction wears the splines but also starts pulling the gearbox shaft in and out slightly until it wears a part of the housing/shaft internally which allows oil where it shouldn't and keeps the 4wd engaged. (I'm trying to remember what the mechanic explained at the time)

We found the wear on our shaft before it got as bad as to wear the gearbox housing but apparently it's common. It's worth a check anyway but if you've been greasing the nipple that goes onto the splines then you should be fine.

They say the tell tale sign is the 4wd staying on even when it's turned off.

Hopefully this isn't it in your case!

Funny you say that, the front axle was refurbed for that very reason. I will probably make a balls of explaining it properly but from what the mechanic told us, the shaft was moving backwards and forwards and pushed into the axle and wrecked gears etc in the front axle. But could it be possible that the 4wd drop box is damaged? Apologies if that makes no sense

Probably talking 60k to change, last year it was going to take 50k to change the 620  have the brakes improved on the new models?

Yeah that's a lot of money.. yes brakes on the 6000 and the 6005 series are now power assisted , pedal travels roughly half of what it does in the M series , there's a few time ive pressed the pedal on our newest tractor's brakes the same way I'd do on the M series and got a bit of a shock :D

Well if the 4wd shaft was checked over that time that you refurbed the front axle and it's been kept greased then hopefully this isn't the case. But from what I understand the same issue can cause damage in the gearbox/drop box by moving the shaft back and forwards. I'm not sure how they test for this but if you find your solenoids and switches are ok you could start looking in that direction.

Like braking with your left foot?:D Since new the brake pedal on the M620 has went to the floor :scratchhead:

If it comes to that I think the tractor will be shifted on, received 5k last year between brakes and pto pack, fuse board and other problems. And the front axle was refurbed the previous year.

Do any of yous know if a front links and pto from a 150.6 will fit a M620?
