Deutz Agrolux 60 (SAME 1000 engine) problems

No bubbles in fuel coming out of lift pump... no bubbles in fuel coming out of filter... no significant fuel pressure drop after filter. Ordered an injector pop tester so that'll be my next step.

Given the consistency of the symptoms and the timing, it seems to me that there is soemthign physically changing within the injection system at the point it starts running wrong.

If it was me and I'd already ruled out everything you have so far then I'd be pulling off the injector pump and sending it for a service. Until that is done it will always be an unknown, and its the most likely source of some sort of cold start mechanism or similar that will cause a physical change to the fuelling or timing that would cause the consistent and repeatable effects you are seeing.

It has three individual pumps controlled by the rack of the governor. I can honestly say that I never saw one swapped or serviced due to any issues ir being worn. Only few that were replaced was due to tge rack getting stiff.

I must say, I would be tempted to give it a workout before starting to remove injectors, as you say it happened after being low or out of fuel so shouldn’t be anything serious

Wow, over a year since I updated... got busy with other things, and the tractor worked well enough to lift things with the loader (which is most of what I use it for) so I put off doing anything about the problem. I did buy an injector pop tester, and they seemed to all test and spray OK.

In November 2022 I hauled it over the mountains to a Deutz dealer in Virginia. Over the course of SIX MONTHS , they tested the injectors (OK), tested the compression (OK), replaced a leaky valve cover gasket, and then called and said "we don't know how to fix this. Come and get it". Fortunately they only charged for parts and waived their $1200 in labor, but I received it back running exactly as it had before.

Now it's at a different shop, one that I am more confident in, who just started work on it and just called to say that two of the injectors are cracked. Not sure where, or how that was missed in two separate tests, but I'm hoping it's the problem. They are replacing all three, and we will go from there.

So the crack would enlarge as engine temp increased
Thanks for the update. What Duetz dealer did you take it to in va?
Zimmerman's Equipment in New Castle. Nice enough folks... it just seemed they were in a bit over their heads, or maybe just too busy doing easy maintenance work that doesn't require troubleshooting. I'm annoyed it took them six months to not fix it, but as they waived all the labor charges I can't grouse too much.
