Devon NFU conference tomorrow

Thats entirely right, but to then complain that your views are not being respected is a bit rich surely?

You don't half make up some rubbish and twist other peoples posts to suit your own agenda!

I stated that the NFU do NOT listen to current NFU ,members and which a case in point is the thread started today about RT!

I talk to many NFU members and they all say the same : The NFU are NOT listening to them/ taking their views into account on issues like RT/ EID tagging etc!

The NFU never listened to me or gave help when I needed it when I was a full member which I was for some years!

I wouldn't expect the NFU to listen to non members like myself and have not stated they should do!

Guth never said he was a member, his comment is what is plainly obvious.

We all have opinions on organisations we are not members of.

Prince Andrew was crazy to do that interview. Lib dems should never have mentioned revoking art50 till they had a 325 MPs.
These are my two at the moment which I think are so obvious that perhaps they have the same PR team as the NFU.

As for the comment that non members need to join to get change.

In my view that would be the equivalent of Jeremy Corben becoming a Conservative and expecting to get his nationalisation policies adopted.

I’m afraid I had to miss lunch as I needed to get to another meeting.

But farmers having lunch together strikes me as a very good thing - I’m completely mystified as to why you object or think it’s got something to do with the Vicar of Dibley.

It is a fair point and it is the the one I was making .

What rights are those that you mention? :scratchhead:
Basically my point was that people on here who are not NFU members seem to think that their views should be given equal weight as members. I would say that it is a union members right to have more representation than non members, otherwise why would anyone join any union or political party.
My initial post was to try and encourage someone who is obviously passionate about farming and the problems his sector faces, who knows of many people who share his opinions to do a lot more good for agriculture than posting on here. On rereading my initial post it does seem a bit aggressive, for which I apologise, and in this case I appear to be the bloke in the pub re @gone up the hill , again I apologise.
If you have any suggestions as to alternative ways to change the way things are being done/forced upon agriculture then please share, FFA for example seems a spent force these days and I cannot think of any other groups than the farming unions (NFU(E?), NFUS (which I am a member of) NFU Cymru and FUW) who are consistently fighting agricultures corner and are at least consulted by government.

Only the other day on another thread you stated that there was a conflict of intrest that Minette Batters aka the NFU president also sits on the RT board, have you as a member told her this directly @An Gof?? and if you did what was her reply??

On a thread last year you stated ( quite correctly ) that if Minette decides she wants to do something/ support a particular idea she will do it regardless even if every NFU member at every meeting on the issue tells her they don't agree with her...

And as for the RT issue, the above comment above that said the NFU members at local meetings have said time and time again they don't agree with the top team/ Stoneleigh on issues like RT/ EID tagging etc yet the top team/ Stoneleigh still plough on regardless and supports these things just shows that the NFU at top level are NOT listening to grassroots members on issues like RT/ Farm assurance/ EID tagging/ etc etc.
Anyone attending the NFU meeting last night would have got the answer to the RT Minette question.

That's good to know. How many grass roots members were present?

I would be surprised if after paid NFU staff and any member who holds or had held a position in the NFU other non members like press and invited guests, there were more than twenty ordinary paid up members present.

Can you surprise me or is that a secret too?

I've no idea who has held various offices across the SW, so can't say .

Meanwhile, did I really read that a prominent lady farmer has lately claimed that this last election was 'driven by the NHS, policing and education etc'.

S'funny, my tractor radio was telling me that it was clearly won by a party whose slogan was 'get brexit done'. (for good or ill)

P'haps some tractor radios are tuned differently.

Never tell someone how to do things. Suggest what they could do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity!

At least you live by your tag line! Love your ingenuity.

I guess there were not many there just like most meetings in general today, less and less people seem to attend meetings

Was kind of hoping you might elaborate on the 'RT Minette question' or is more NFU cloak and butter knife sort of stuff?
Don't think it's as much cloak and dagger. But I could be wrong.

How many were there. Well age range was from 8 to 80. From top to toe of the region.
Average turn out I would say but, there is only 2 positions up for election.

Homefarm, I can't guarantee you'll believe me as you sound like you've made your own mind up about the attendance, assuming we are talking about the Minette meeting last week, I chaired this meeting, it was a West Somerset branch and South molten chumleigh branch event, held in the very heart of exmoor, we had approx 50 members, plus nfu staff, it was a full house with later arrivals having to stand.

Considering how awful the weather was on the night, the turn out was fantastic!
