Dexta Bonnet

Hi,

im restoring a fordson that original had an undershot exhaust pipe, well i have changed the manifold to an upshot pipe, and got a second-hand original bonnet with the exhaust pipe hole in it, however the hole doesn’t line up with the pipe?


was there two bonnets or pipe positions, one for the super dexta maybe?

could anyone measure the centre of the exhaust pipe hole, from the front of the bonnet?

my dexta is an early one (1957 i think) with the headlamps on the side of the cowling, not in the grill

Bepco show two different part numbers for the Dexta or Super Dexta,as do Old 20 Parts Co..Perhaps that is the difference.

Would imagine it would be simpler to get the manifold to match the bonnet, if there are two options for the manifold, i dont think there is though

unlikely, but possible your second hand bonnet came off a petrol dexta with the 4cyl engine, hence the hole being in a different place

Thinking more, there is only one manifold. The difference between a dexta and a super dexta bonnet is the bottom edge of each side

on a dexta, the fuel tank end is deeper, then it rises up to the line what runs right to the nosecone

on a super dexta, the different nose cone allows for the bonnet to be the same depth from the fuel tank right up to the nose

Both bonnets are identical in dimensions (apart from the exhaust pope hole)

I'm thinking maybe the manifold is wrong then some how, as you can see when it's in place the pipe is 2 inches or so to the left

Yep, thats a manifold off an industrial perkins A3. Buy a solid one piece Dexta manifold and the bonnet will fit perfect

It lloks like you have the wrong manifold (unless there are more bonnets this video shows what I believe is std

Thanks that makes sense now, this is not the original head and I assumed that that was the correct manifold, ops [emoji15]
