Diaries, calendars etc. from suppliers

The leaves fall from the trees, the year turns and the reps should soon be bringing their gifts.

Is this tailing off? Are we now in the last ten years of such things? Surely the desk diary is now nearing extinction as a species.

Dad, for reasons of his own, goes to considerable lengths to still get the agrovista diary, dispite not dealing with them directly any more.

Mole valley have been the winner for the office calendar in recent years, once we stopped getting the Hutchinson one.

NFU have got in early on the wall planner race, but with only 6 months per side, which smacks of economy. I'm hoping that Agrii will deliver again this year, but can settle for 'the fruit grower' if i have to.

Always thought these things are a complete waste of money and bad for the environment. Ours goes straight into the recycling bin because who uses a paper calendar or diary now a days. its nearly 2022 for christs sake.

My uncle used to be a feed merchant and got literally hundreds of calendars, pens, diaries etc. from the manufacturers to give to customers.

Aunt used to wrap up some and give to relatives as Christmas presents!

We have a desk dairy in the office in to which we put inseminations, calvings & deaths.

It quick record to back up the computers.

It will be a sad day when we no longer get ours free courtesy of ProCam ........ and I certainly aren't buying one

I use a diary every day, I put everything that happened each day good or bad, I have the last 5 years sat next my computer to see when things happen in previous years.

I disagree. I'm not yet 40 and still love a paper diary, and still rely (too much) on dad keeping one.

The human brain relates to the sight/memory of handwriting on paper in a way that it doesn't with notes on a smartphone.

My “day job” is with our local Shire Council, as a Team Leader with Parks & Gardens. Just for the record ( for those who dismiss paper diaries ), all staff are issued with a diary ( your choice A5 or A4 ) to record day to day work activities & is a crucial part of individual record keeping, work history & for filling in timesheets etc

2022 can't come soon enough for this old girl. Had to administer some first aid to her with some grain tape this morning.

Always have one in the top pocket of my overalls. Movement book, med records, fert records, bales, prices, etc, etc all rolled into one.

Theres' one for every year, going back to the late 70's in the office......

.......well, except for one year (some TFFers may well remember a thread on here) when @Mrs Y B managed to put it through the washing machine while still in my overalls :banghead:

I keep 3 diaries.
The smallest one lives in the back pocket of my jeans and gets filled in with stock numbers, length measurements, numbers and addresses and any other thing that needs remembering. There must be 50 of them in the drawer.
A normal diary lives beside the tv chair and is filled in every evening during the ad breaks. It sits on top of a ten year pile.
The third one is a hard back exercise book which has one year to a page and spans 70 years. In this goes each event of note as it happens. The earliest entry is the TE20 arriving. Next is the Harrow and Wealdstone accident. Next after that is the Spitfire crashing next door, engine failure and a wheels up landing. Pilot a bit shook up but walked to the ambulance. Entries this year include traditional cowshed re roof, fibre connection goes live and other things like that. Talking about the fibre, my diary notes that PO Telephones rewired the cwm completely in 1978, so 43 years from ending party lines to FTTP. How many here know what a party line is (for christs sake)?

I kept one for a few years with every serial/vin number of all the vehicles. Not for dates of anything.

Be surprised how useful when going for parts, especially ERF, first thing the storeman would ask for.

Desk diaries:
One in workshop -record field ops as backup to Gatekeeper
One in digester - log repairs, breakdowns, daily figures in case data logging files corrupted.
One in CHP room - log services to engine, interruptions in connection etc.
One in farm office - appointments so others can see what is in on-line diaries
One in dairy - record things as they happen for later transfer to Uniform in the office

Your year to a page diary is a really good idea!

I have desk diaries for every year going back to 1981, so it’s all in there somewhere, but to have major happenings and and memorable events in any one year listed on a single page is something that with hindsight I wish I had done.
