my lambing shed is leakier than your defence...had a mob of 3 week old ewes/lambs get out running round yard.....decent setta twins also though

Yes happy belated birthday long suffering Cinders...... I'm pretty sure it's a long held tradition that at 15 u get to do an entry in your father's diary spilling the beans on how it is being the daughter of a literary giant/comedy god/hapless ejit!!

SO...i've had a mob of about 30 ewes and 45 lambs shut up ....no grass and i've corn/fb and pea straw...i figured i may as well keep them in til first hep was due...then turn em out.....grass coming....they're in barn next to remaining store lambs....sods law about week back they all got in together....mehh...not fussed i'll just separate agin when i treat

last night city just kicked off....HH phones....ewe with big lambs in yard......knackered so....mehh...sort out in morning.....halftime...last checka lambing shed....ewe lambing ,,,waiting on second....... but ,by now, several ewes+lambs in yard having pushed door slightly ajar......get most of them back in

morning....sort out lambings ....feck it's cold....got me thermals back on.....then bucket of food and go look for any remaining escapees....find them down field with a few snot....they follow me home and are caught bar mcenroe......boy + mrs spin come up....we sort them all out into right pens + worm ewes hep lambs

afternoon 'swabbed admirals decks' + rejigged lambing shed.....heard a 'crash' from barn.....a store lamb had broken a bar in a hurdle....got itself wedged whilst trying to get thru it and was walking nochelantly around with it........all the ewes/lambs/ stores mixed up again

thursday

the hurdlers have started to lamb....non stop twins at mo ......earlier it'd been the nz suffolk x that'd been doing well......letting the side down a bit have been my terminal x..... but the dorset x have been horrible....two of them have ended up lamb a piece outta triplets

sorted the ewes/lambs/ stores .....again....turned former out....switched on fencer.....the alarm went off .....feck you'd think it was ww3.....i switch it off and leave it cos other things to do.....productive morning non the less

apres check round and one of K's ewes had lambed....nice setta twins.......the ewe is an ill fated experiment cross with an escaped herdwick.....anyhoo K was pleased but it was a 'portent' for chaos to come

i trundle down field to find the leccy fence problem ....at the gate is 'pugh' with her twins.....she nips thru gate and heads back to yard.....i carry on....some lambs are chewing the leccy fence.....i find the short....head back to yard and switch on...8.5k volts....i turn to pugh.....little fekker won't go back......now pugh is an elderly but surprisingly nimble beltie/texel/wilt mix but is blind in one eye....i cut her some slack because of this ....last year she had twin boys but lost one....TBH i suspected fratacide as the surviving twin was a little b'stard.....i often found poor pugh running round looking for him....he'd leg it anywhere....i once found him asleep in the polytunnel ignoring his mothers plaintive bleats ......anyhoo....pugh is having none o this field lark ...i just let her and her twins run round

i try to put one a yorkies green hay bales in a ring feeder....i'm trampled as try to get net wrap off ...trouble is they won't eat the other hay cos off it....shoulda waited for K....i retire for a rollie but interrupted by a hurdler 128 who's got out of a mothering up pen...K arrives and we fettle her ewe and get the hurdler back to her twins....just looking round shed and there's a bloke asking about the census form ffs....grumpily i grab his spare form ...sit in van with rollie and fill it in for admiral......hurdler 128 wanders past again

what a fekkin overnight/ start to the day ...long short of it what shoulda been 4 doubles and a single turned out ....3 singles...4 orphans....2 dead...all runty fekkers......wandering off from mum who wouldna have them back.....add to that a ewe with small prolapse and day was off to a blinda

in the emergency i built a hay box outta bales and put waifs in temporarily....penned up what there was.....colostrumed the waifs......harness +metacam on prolapse....in between two sets of good twins unaided.....had no spectam after K had mishap last weekend for the waifs......phoned vet 'we've not got any.....we can put you on list?'.....phoned another vet 'we're moving away from prescribing it'......sorry but fekin useless shower the lotta them IMO...i don't use it 'willy nilly' FFS.....my old vet once asked me to help her convince someone who did that they didn't need to.....but it is a valuable tool in emergency and this morning was one such

bloomin velocogander didn't help....he's constantly shagging......penned up in shed behind hay there seems to be regular 'goosy pleasure' noises.....i let them off the first two cos there's two girls and he's gotta keep eggs fertile.....but they were still 'at it' regularly at 5pm...i suppose there's nowt else to do ....i could let them out but risk velocogander wrath...or i could try eating what they do

sorted and off to mart...9 store ewe lambs + 1 cull.....clearing up so not expecting much TBH......anyhoo vegans are back.......i'm then sat there waiting for unloading berth and two 4x4 s with twin deck sail past me....i get out 'que jumpers' i exclaim......;no you're alright m8 ' says jovial market chap (jmc)....'i need them over there and you in here'....as it happens they do unload before me into a holding pen....i don't mind...they're nice lambs....anyhoo jmc does me next....'tell you what' he says 'my boy bought some of your ewes+lambs last year and they've all had triplets'......made my day

mole next....£300 on various sundries....they're stocking creosoted posts

back home it's chaos .....lambing shed under control....two hurdlers mid twins.......mrs spin looking round holiday let....shower bar not working......a builder turns up with some free sand that he has to clear from a nearby let he's been working on....the admiral has summoned K's builder husband to look at rendering outside wall on tenants cottage cos she's worrying about coming wasp season....i've complaints about one a strawbs punters driving too fast and admiral is riding about with fd sending cinders into panic.......i retreat to look at the shower bar.....cold water turns off....disconnect waste to get at hot isolator....turn...test...fail....water runs outta bath

the other day pigeon bosses son phoned me....he's a plumber and now gone on his own......so i give him a ring....he's over about 4pm and i hand that problem over to him

thinking about my overnight problems....it's either the fact their unattended for 8 hours....OR....light .....now the barn has batten holder + bulbs in good nick but having once seen a lightbulb explode it's not worth the fire risk i don't think....i can fix it before another year but thats not now.......so i've bought a portable work light to rig up and we'll see how it goes

move round...space + hurdles for night......K calls me to a ewe that'd had a single....i thought she'd finished but i pulled this out....is there any hope for poor little fekker...it can suck.....lamb with swollen tongue....fekkin pics on computer playing up

If he can suck, there's every chance he'll resolve, spin. I've seen lambs that have swollen heads and tongues worse than him that recover.
