got up...drove to bearing supplies nr norwich just as they opened......got a new chain...£14   .....shorta diesal so on way back stopped and got some at a little garage and 'treated' myself to a costa vending machine 'vannila cappacino'.....it was horrible but in a very comforting way😁

back at farm....fettled admiral then took gator down field to fit new chain.....tried the auger first with mole grips....GOOD NEWS it turned easily so no obstruction(y).......fitted chain....BAD NEWS....the tensioner wouldn't go back....it was to big:scratchhead:......back to yard....some calf pen kerung and fashioned a smaller one;).......back to field.....still to big:scratchhead:......cue saw/bodging til it did😗......bit worried though cos original tensioner had 2 bolts to stop it turning but my bodge only had room for one:banghead:

back at yard started tipping trailer....i'd done tyre pressures on trailer but forgot to top up back axle oil:rolleyes:....other little niggly things but eventually down field to try my repair:inpain:.....eased lever in gently.....belt groaned then went #phew.....i suppose it had to start up full...it was nae bother after that:love:....anyhoo i got finished ...the only other drama was mcenroe miss behaving whilst i was trying to tip....fortunately mrs spin was nearby....one sharp word from her and .mcenroe legged it😁😁.....so once again having got started/running smoothly i've finished:unsure:....i'm relieved though....total cost of repairs £30....10 gallons of fuel and field looks a whole lot better than it did a week ago.....just as important no costly breakdowns which always worry me due my mechanical weakness

interesting what ppl find 'difficult'....i get stressed/depressed but never think about things being 'difficult'....it's just 'the way it is':scratchhead:....i mean i'm just back from putting the admiral back to bed cos she fell out.....whilst i've been trying to catch up i've been giving her odd sleeping pill.....it doesn't help her though.....back on vit d placebo tommoz🤫😁

anyhoo by way of a contrast to the shiny mchale:love:.....here's my vermeer emergency belt repair courtesy of my dead welgar donor...180 bales 'not out'😁

In the interests of reliability do you know the clip on the joining link should be closed side facing direction of travel? Lovely combine BTW, slightly jealous!(which is silly, we are all grass for about 25 years)

my late dad's fave film was 'ice cold in alex' where a group of soldiers,,in the desert and behind german lines had to improvise to get home......when faced by a problem he used to say to me 'what would you do in the desert?'.....he wasn't a bodger but didn't have the 'improvisation' i have......between us we could fix most things......since he's death i miss his 'temperence' to my 'bodging'.....my ideas are normally good....my 'execution' often not pretty :bag:

Daft ideas aren't daft if they work, nor are less polished running repairs.

Uncle had a 56, very similar to a senator with the tank behind the cab and engine at the back. 12 foot used to cut 300 acres a year with ease, I don't know why everything seems such a rush now. We have bigger faster more efficient machinery and still were all rushing around like blue arsed flies!

shiny kit doesn't make life an easier if you have to sit on it 'forever' to pay for it;).......ask on here 'what combine for 300ac?'....they'd all be saying....20ft cut etc.....in reality my dommy could do that especially if you used some money saved on a mobile drier;)

The shiny'ish kit here can sit in the shed if it has too and I won't loose anything as it's all bought and paid for!

We must have it all wrong as we have the 20 footer( 18 actually) and still needed to use the drier.....BUT the drier was a bargain, actually A bit of a steal but hay ho one man's loss is another man's gain😉😉😉😉😉😘

caught me at a weak moment  😁

if kit is paid for and sits in shed thats ideal.....problems start when you've gotta wear them out to pay for it in my very humble opinion;)

Fully agree!

Or you buy kit to chase after work for others, we've got our own kit which we can justify for our own work and if it does some extra for others all well and good.
