right here goes

wednesday

pissy bloomin day when nowt went really right....the store lambs in the next village have gone 'feral' and refused to be caught:banghead:......a small fencing job took 2 hours:rolleyes:....did get to mole for some bits/pieces including new vaccination gun:)

thursday

rang vet 9am about toxovax....'is it in?'......'yes and no...theres an issue'........'whats that then?'......'we've delivered it to another farm,,,,but it'll be back by 11am...we'll ring you'

got ewes caught in hms sheep cycle and at stalag,,,,odd jobs....lunch....no phone call.....2pm phoned them up and had little rant:mad: ......did bills😭.....then decided to go into naam to hand deliver some and rant at vets in person......by the time i got there the vaccine was there along with copious apologies and assurances it'd been kept ok:rolleyes:......got home about 5pm...K arrived...we finished just before dark:rolleyes:

mind you it was only 100 doses and fortunately we'd colour coded all the ewes to be done....there's about 15 undone + 15 that are probably in lamb......so we'll have 130 ish to lamb next spring......down 100 on two years ago.....we've moved from 'small commercial' to 'large hobby'......the land released has gone to strawbs and will go into 'wildlife offer stewardship' (WOS)...the other factor being the on going and future care needs of the admiral

friday

was a bit ahead cos i'd done the bills so got on carting horse muck out onto the stubble after chores....forecast is heavy rain sunday so good job done....well nearly:rolleyes:......i woulda finished but for 90 mins sorting admirals pills.....she has about 15 pills/day of about 7 varieties....mostly for depression....the prescription dates are all over the place:rolleyes:....keeping track quite difficult and now they've changed the system....again😭....i could try and re organise it to a single monthly pick up...but then the admiral rings the doctor...the prescription changes and it all gets messed up again:rolleyes:

how the mighty fall:rolleyes:....BOTTOM of the mart heavy wt lambs and kill sheet from abattoir didn't have a single 'u' grade:(...'puppydogs' dirty weekend and misfiring beltex to blame:rolleyes:....pride hurt more than pocket i suppose:rolleyes:

paid in some cheques at post office and bought some baccy on way out....gone up a quid:mad:....bloomin budget i reckon.....so urban bourgeoise get money off prosecco and poor old peasant me pays more for 'snout'...i often rant about bourgeoise and it annoys hell outta HH😁....she says it's 'hypocritical cos i'm a wealthy middle aged white male'.....all i can say is i 'camouflage my money so well not even i can find it'😁

the weekend

saturday

dropped back the two footie tickets to mu'ad dib ....they'd got back from cornwall late the night before.....14 hour drive....reckon it's nice but round here still better :scratchhead:

fekkin fraught morning...finished muck....ibc of water for nags/sheep.....dozen fence posts to put in for mrs peacock.....BUT....interruptions....admiral kept coming over on mule gesturing,,,i'd have to stop...only to have some snippet of info that coulda waited:banghead:....then mrs spin arrived with some new boots for admiral,,,,i mustn't be churlish but i had to stop cos fd won't let mrs spin in house:banghead:.......things no better at arkwrights....an elderly 'gentlewoman' parked in similar vintage berlingo to mine was conveying her order via a 'runner' (granville) to arkwright.....basket seemed to contain vodka ,highland spring and a copy of countrylife so i suppose her afternoon was sorted😁......eventually we got caught up but whilst leaving she'd repositioned to the fuel pumps and granville was back 'in action' ferrying a selection of pickles😁

all in all by 2pm i was finished but frazzed:rolleyes:...in other news the scotties hit a deer...so they're car less again:rolleyes:

sunday

extra hour in bed:love:.......i used to hate clocks going back but as i've got older my 'body clock' likes it better......still look forward to when they go forward again:)......rainy/blowy on rounds this morning but not to bad......spent few hours starting to catch up on admirals housework.....mrs spin told me off yesterday:bag:......city loose 1-2😭

1st november

first up i decided to check water meter/ the repair the 'waterboard' had done....a fallen branch blocked the former...the latter stil had it's 'temporary repair'...i don't wanna chase him so he bodges it so my mind wanders thinking it over......at the farm the local horse feed co is delivering....he has some hayledge for strawbs and is grateful when i volunteer forklift:)

K arrives and she and admiral go off checking....domestic chores done i enjoy coffee and rollie......give myself a 'pat on back' for finally getting 'on track' and vow to take it a bit easier:)......admiral + K return from ewes saying they've seen less than usual:scratchhead:....big area though and they didn't do a rough count like i do ....they go off to field one store lambs whilst i potter and have another coffee😗 making the excuse K's good company for admiral:)....they're longer than normal:scratchhead:......they return and report store lambs ok but they've spotted 'several SNOT ewes' in next field:oops::banghead:😭....'how many?' i panic....'we didn't count' K sheepishly :banghead:

back we go....sure enough 25 of the fekkers undecided between my neighbours stubble or rather mulched beet tops:rolleyes:.....now the usual 'drill' is we drive them and they'll run back to where they got out;)......they hare off dotting in/out of hedge cos ,now it's fenced, their old escape routes are blocked:scratchhead:...they stop at a wood but'll go no further:scratchhead:.....we turn them around and drive them back up the field....a short lane and we dump them in with store lambs:rolleyes:

so major change to days plans....ewes are getting bored....'fresh pasture' needed:rolleyes:...K goes off to start leccy fencing stubble turnips......i go off to try and find where they got out......SO remember the 'small grazing marsh fencing job' i've been putting off😗......well yesterdays weather had worsened it.....tracks:rolleyes:....the snot musta got out there....then meandered 1/2km thru the wood before emerging onto my neighbours stubble:banghead:......i go off and help K with leccy fencing for resta morning

lunch

set off with forklift....eco clipex posts + materials to 'fix'(bodge) broken fence.....the corner post has rotted off but pushing fence back with teleporter it goes tight.....i decide to wedge eco post in front. to hold it, using sleeve as drivall.....then teleporter push post in(y)..... a little deeper than 'recommended'😗...it works(y)..BUT i've pushed sleeve into ground to far and it won't come out:banghead::scratchhead:......eventually i scheme a bitta ratchet strap wrapped around sleeve and looped.....lift out with teleporter(y).......few more eco posts and fence is serviceable...it could do with some barb on top but it's started to rain and so i declare:)

bitta headache after my day but some pills and off to mu'ad dibs oldest's birthday tea......bitta tradition:)......the marty's are there ( mrs is OSF of md and i).....anyway mr marty has some leatherjackets to rehome...2 fit mu'ad dib...1 fits me:oops: ......so there we are standing agin the mirror in the 'gym'.....both in our leather jackets (mines more a coat) trying to figure out if we look like the kray twins or a gay couple outta fulham:scratchhead:😁

DAY OFF  ...well 10 am-4pm which for me counts:rolleyes:......over to mu'ad dibs and playing wargames...well 'dune' the boardgame to be precise :bag:.....marty who's married to an osf of ours and is just as nerdy there to make 3:),,,,,,,marty's bitta 'gastronome' and likes spicy hot food....he made lunch... mine supposedly 'mild'...i had one mouthful and gave up:inpain:

the admiral ,meanwhile, had a phone survey about nfu membership...she ranted about red tractor😁(y)

wednesday

bit tired and grumpy as we rode round the checking the ewes.....'i knew you'd be in a bad mood after spending the day with those rich playboys' said the admiral:oops:..'you're just as wealthy as they are' she continued:rolleyes:.........some truth in that....cept theirs is in 'cash'...mine in 'property' and why am i trudging around scheming/working effectively 'rubbing two hapennys together to make a penny':scratchhead:....sometimes with the 'to do list' stretching into the distance ....input prices rising.....climate change bashing.....regulations....i begin to think 'sell up retire and be rid a the hassle'

i cheered up as the morning went on....we got the snot with store lambs home.....sorted them out ...found 10 fat lambs and 6 cull ewes for sat....resta snot back in with flock(y)......HOWEVER considering we caught ewes up TWICE last week and marked them all,,,,,how is it we found 4 unmarked ewes:scratchhead:........have i got 'woodland snot' that'll emerge like ww2 japanese soldiers from the 'jungle' in years to come:unsure:...i suppose i should really know how many ewes we have:bag:....finished morning by getting 5 culls from stalag home(y)

lunch.....got the bill for the toxovax...pleasantly surprised that it was only £5/ dose(y).....i was expecting £6+.......AND they only charged for 50 doses rather than 100😁.....i did the 'honest thing and rang them up:)

got wet in afternoon running out feed for mains electric fence to stubble turnips:rolleyes:

lastly....this whole leather jacket/krays thing.....got marty to take a photo of mu'ad dib and i......ok not the krays:bag:....but how about reeves and mortimer:unsure:

SPIN'S BIG MARKET DAY OUT

so ,being as i have only an 8x5 ifor, it was a two trip day today....12 cull ewes. 1 wether and topped up with 4 fat lambs......did it pretty easily:) ......little incident second trip....a lorry backing onto cattle area stopped two trailers at at gate....vegans all over second trailer filming so i stayed 50 yds back....they spot me and some decide to run towards me only for the trailers to move allowing me to sail straight past them mid sprint...a pretty girl vegan rolled her eyes in frustration...i gave her a big smile😁

today i decided to stay on cos there was some 'sheep equipment' to be sold at end of sale....hmm 'equipment':scratchhead:...more later.....anyhoo cos i was staying i thought i'd do some 'mkt research' and follow the sale....might help my ram deliberations:unsure:...more later:rolleyes:

first up fat lambs.....first observation some of the fat lambs ,i thought, needed to be in stores:scratchhead:...whilst waiting i was 'approached' ..it was @Norfolk Hill Farmer :) we'd not met before so that was nice and also i had someone to chat to cos i'm a bitta 'billy no mates' up there:) ..anyhoo my 43kg made £108...bit behind what i see on 'tracker' but i was happy with that....we're always behind price wise up here it seems

anyway:rolleyes:......next it was culls.....£70-100 bar one 'poor' at £40 that i wanted rid of...i'd hoped to av £80....but it'll be closer to £70:rolleyes:

then store lambs......some looked bigger than small fats and fat lamb buyers stood on....i didn't see many....a space opened up on wash off so i took my opportunity;)

wandering back they were starting breeding sheep....eavesdrop alert😗 1/ two farmers moaning about cost of expanding flock numbers only to witness some decent pens of 'flock age' breeding sheep go for killing money...eavesdrop 2 one of the cull buyers who bought some aforementioned telling another farmer he was 'buying to kill'

NOW IT GETS 'INTERESTING' ...just a few breeding rams then the sheep equipment....i'm waiting....enter 'NHF'..'hey you reckon you need a new ram' and he pushes me towards a pen of hampshire downs  .....'i don't buy from markets' i stutter...'why not' NHF interrupts pointing at a ,i must say, decent charolais....i weaken:oops:....climb a gate to observe...'two int pen...take pick' auctioneer is off...not a lotta interest....goes over cull price....stalls at £135....i bid £140:bag:......£145 bid...i chicken out :bag:......'you didn't stay in for long' chastens NHF

no time for recriminations though we're on to the 'equipment'...i'm after some hurdles but they make strong money....i do however have a little purchase for £26 ....afterwards NHF is rather rude about it 'give me a tenner and i'll scrap it for you'
