today was a better lambing day

.....mind you that wasn't difficult.....7pm sat found a suffolk x shearling next to a dead lamb.....went back 10pm and she'd spat another dead one out

.....5 dead lambs for the day

......you start thinking is the feed right...tups? :scratchhead:

dreaded going up this morning...bitter easterly wind

........but nicely surprised

........wilt single.....two sets nice sized twins

......remember the little black throw back lamb we had last year?...only a ewe lamb.....fabulous twins

.......think i might take one away though :scratchhead:

.......anyhoo 7 lambings...12 really good lambs

feck how do you big lads manage :scratchhead:

farm at 6am.....all quiet so did bills?.......then it all gets blurry til 1pm......used soma the calf pens as pen dividers that free'd up some hurdles....took dude and did some fencing.....liveries in a tiz as mrs peacocks pony got loose

......regular lambings......so... 1pm took trailer to skippys wood yard for wood chip then it all goes bleary again until 4pm :scratchhead:

.....just back from picking up the trailer that dude had hand filled.....K doing afternoon rounds.....i look round pens.....why is it the last pen you look at always has chaos

.....spotted a ratty lamb .....upon investigation it was one of four being licked by two ewes.....cept one ewe had a large dead looking single half out

......got it out and it was fine

....tried to foster a quad....ewe up for it but lamb didn't wanna know

.....top it all quad ewe's got no milk

dudes been working really hard....he now has just short of 1km of 30 inch wide beds...in 5m lengths

today feels like it's been a sh!t day....difficult lambings.....dead twins first and last thing.....2 more sets of triplets.....it is what is i suppose

....i've still had a much much better day than my neighbour though

a much better day

.....at farm early and a selection of good lambings.....the 'recovery' led by the horned and shedders

once sorted i phoned my neighbour...in truth i didn't know quite what to say when i saw him in the lane last night

.....his wife answered and i gave our best wishes and love...i often wonder if it helps at such times...i mean the poor woman might've been on tenderhooks thinking it was the hospital...but what do you do?

the hippie had asked me to wake him early....i duly delivered him a coffee then didn't see him til 11am

......he sold his first plants today

but when he did arrive he got a useful job or two done

managed a kip and got hurdles for tonight......20 more days like this and it'll be over

676 HAS MILK

........just back after taking HH up to do the pony.....676 lambed yesterday...triplets,,,,nadda.....spectam and colostrum...regular feeds....just took a bottle to them....not interested :scratchhead:

.......tried her udder and...well

.....a handful of white liquid made me so happy

.......i know the euphemism might be over the top but feck it i need the laugh

also mcenroe has developed a little posse that live in/around the yard

.....3 other exlana crosses like her and a wooly wild thing with a long tail c/w poo balls

....i call her clacky cos of the noise she makes when she runs

...anyhoo one of the posse....in the bushes is sporting a huge single

i should've known better ...i mean i was happy lambing all year round....it suited me.....BUT NO

.....i thought i must 'improve'....get things tighter....so i used a teaser ram

.....WTF

.....7% of my little flock have lambed in 24 hrs

.....i'm just not equipped emotionally,physically or logistically

......mind you logistics ,sheep and me don't mix at best of times

anyhoo the last 24 hrs didn't get off to the best of starts

10pm last night i found one of Ks ewes presenting a nose...front foot....rear leg...i saved one and gave K an orphan as she's putting in a shift

....then first thing this morning...dead single and rat sized triplets (one dead).....in the other sections it was better news but i was busy....i found a small lively licked off lamb wandering about....feck knows where that came from :scratchhead:

.....i gave it to the bereaved mum and she took it

....sorted out i had brekkie

SO....time to let some ewes/lambs out on field next the barn......you know what it's like...the ewes + some lambs dash off.....some lambs stay behind....mums come back for them and so on

....K arrives and we move remaining in lambers from polytunnel to the vacated barn space....no more lambing by torchlight

....i then start to empty lambing pens into the polytunnel as a mothering up area.....mum is aghast that the 'babies' have been turned out without 'breakfast'

grabs K and sets off loaded to the field.....i'm in blissful ignorance of this and am moving ewes/lambs just as mule returns closely followed by the WHOLE FECKING MOB FROM THE FIELD

...a yardful of ewes/lambs ' it's your fault' chides mum 'they should've had their breakfast before going out on a cold day like this'

lambing wise it was a pretty good day....lots twins another set of triplets but good ones

....milk

.....better lambs

......no assists

........had a ewe that i thought had just a single have another 3hrs later

i only have 3 vacant lambing pens for tonight...oh joy

in other news dude has deserted me a bit

.......he did arrive after lunch roping in mum(cakes) to help doing some planting on his plot

...i'm assured he'll be on the job tommoz

been like a feckin holiday today

....half the lambings.....i've got some free pens even

....left dude doing the lambing pens and headed off for a nap

....mum was supposed to wake me up but forgot....i awoke at 1:30pm

i was late....i wanted to get into naam...dead lambs to get rid + bank....FS yard not answering phone

....feck it i'll go anyway.....so off i go....pile of dead lambs + banking

.....the yard is open

....the bank though is fecking shut

....2pm and the useless feckers have gone

lost my first ewe today....elderly wilt been suffering from tld.....the other case i had lambed twins but no milk

.........last night at 10pm i'd just had a difficult lambing but ok,,,,,then i spot exlana x just starting

....i'm tired and leave her....first time i've knowingly left a ewe lambing....but she was fine,,,,great twins

.....just before i went to naam an exlana hogg starting....i left her too....she was fine as well

back home i've fired off an angry email to my bank manager

......confession time though?...i know i come over as a placid easy going lovable type

but once angry...oh dear?.......the barclays fakenham branch has a notice about opening times.....cept one angry customer has defaced it with 'FECKING USELESS' ?

Its almost like they don't want your money...............Banks hack me off too but Natwest have currently been better than some of the others.
