diary of a comedy sheep farm

I'd give you 2 'likes' but sadly that's not an option
Hi Spin,

Sorry to pester you again, can you tell me what model of Protimeter you have languishing in the cupboard.
Is it a yellow one or one of the early black ones? (Grainmaster?)

I have had more and more people telling me how unreliable they are - I have now got a curious urge to try to find out why. I have acquired an early black one (for research purposes only - I do not intend to start servicing them, i’ll stick to the Marconi ones (a lot less trouble I think).

What I am really interested in is a manual as at present I don’t have any instructions for this model - does anyone in our learned community have the instruction book for this?...

If you know anyone who has one I would be interested to hear from them if I can get a copy or a scan...

Many thanks
Nigel

Spin Towers with catching pens interesting! How high's the sides?? (Only thinking of the Bilabong and gang) 6ft by any chance????
Can I sudjest that you can use it as a 'through way' will make getting the buggers in easier if by yourself and no dog/help, just a thought.

spoiler alert....how am i going to keep you lot amused if you keep guessing the plot lines:banghead:???

=Norfolk high tech (you need to be able to add up)

= Lincolnshire low tech. If the grain cracks, the Man from Del Monte, he say, "Yeah" ?

If the grain doesn't crack, the Man from Del Monte, he say, "Putcha feet up for a bit longer, Spin" ?

Spin,
Now that is the best set of instructions I have seen for moisture measurement in s long time ?????

Interesting your MM is a yellow one, as it tells me that things didn’t improve as they introduced newer models.
Having now looked inside the meter I acquired it seems overly complex for what it is trying to achieve compared to the vastly superior constructed and simpler Marconi meters I am used to. Much less to go wrong (or adjust) and easily more stable/reliable. But, as I said before, I am somewhat biased - having worked for Marconi’s on Moisture meters way back when I had hair and was good looking... ( that was a while ago ?)

Keep going son - you are getting there...

bo peep and shoes came over again... :) .......first outing of smeg mk2 shearing version to an out laying field and 20 rather large ewes sheared?...one so large i had to hold:oops:....even so she doubled up with no ill effects(y)....she thinks she can get up to 40/visit and i think that she's right:)....they both complimented me on the condition of our sheep which was really nice:).....they are in terrific nick i have to say(y)

they left just after lunch...i went down and marked out the beet......nap til cooler.....then sprayed them.....at one stage i thought i was getting drift:scratchhead:...but later i realised it was dust from the tyres:oops:.....the beet look a mess but i'm not to worried as it's mostly sow thistle/couch on the old fallow plot....the dow shield should sort the former....some falcon the latter;)

my new grass is ok....thank goodness i ballsed and put double seed on....quite a lot of fathen though:banghead:....i shoulda sprayed before cleaning out but there was a touch of expediency so it'll have to wait.....now today was the first day i've worried about drought....everything seems to be holding up but today the grazing fields started to have a july look:oops:....the spring barley looks fabulous ...lush...dark green.....only problem is at 10 inches high it's pushing out it's flag leaf:banghead:

two photos today...1/ smeg mk2:) 2/ my spray bowser for small/skint farmers (pre power wash)...it satisfied RT back in the day:rolleyes:

congratulations you win a 'calendar' ? ? ?

been puzzling today that both 'flatty' and 'primrose' reacted to my giving 'cloddy' a calender with a ?.....NOW .....i can only conclude that as 'flatty' is already promised a calendar then 'primrose' must want a calendar...thus they are obviously becoming much coveted and ,as such, both were amazed i gave one away so cheaply??.....but cloddy...don't worry :)...my word is my bond;)......primrose is just going to have to try harder??

i digress:rolleyes:.....bitta of a scorcher today....i wanted desperately to finish my catching pen whilst mum sort to disrupt me at every turn until we fell out:rolleyes:....at the end of the day i was fecked but we'd made up and the pen is ready for 'sea trials' tommoz......hence i've named my pen 'hms sheep cycle'....why:scratchhead:....partly cos i'm a nerd who played to many wargames when i was younger? and a love of military terminology.....the family often get confused though if i say something like....'RIGHT....lets turn the carriers into the wind'.....meaning 'lets get a start'?

hms sheep cycle is gourd shaped vessel with,at the 'pinchpoint', the scrapyard to port and lambing shed to starboard comprising just short of 200m of ht8/80/15 and 68 posts....mostly standard ht but ,by halving some wire, 4'6'' near the business end;).....combined with some gates i bought at a collective sale 8 yrs ago but never used and some lambing hurdles i think she's a formidable vessel?.....her only weakness is a large briar bush next the building starboard side:rolleyes:....but we'll see:)

have i been out in the sun for to long today:scratchhead:

Of course! I couldn't put my finger on it before but now you mention the Navy, there's clearly something of Captain Pugwash about 'Miss April'. ?

Looking forward to hearing more of HMS Sheep Cycle's successful sea trials. The shipping forecast is pretty good:

Thames, Humber, German Bight - wind variable 2 to 4, veering easterly, fair, visibility good, occasional snotage later in west.
