Diesel UTV/Gator for stock farm

Have a couple of quads, but looking at possibly going for a second hand diesel UTV to share the workload a bit and keep a bit dryer the way the winters are going . Any recommendations good or bad, want something reliable, that pulls trailer well and something I can pull in workshop myself to do brakes/bushes etc when time comes. Plenty of steep fields here so something that handles them well too. Polaris ? JD ? Kubota, or something else.

Second hand.:nailbiting::oops:

The question is do you go for a cheaper new one with warranty and maybe subsidised finance or a premium second hand?

UTV’s are generally money pits, even new ones if they have to be dealer serviced for warranty.
My Polaris hasn’t been dealer serviced,I’ve done everything myself,it’s coming up two years old and it’s only fault is the heater not blowing hot.

My neighbour also has a one and other than servicing in four years it hasn’t needed anything,it was part of the reason I bought one,are they really money pits?

The new Polaris are a good machine, a lot better than they used to be. However, if you blew an engine or transmission under warranty having done the servicing yourself would Polaris stand the repair?

I serviced my Fendt’s from new and they still honoured the warranty,I’d think Polaris wouldn’t be any different.

I had a 90 on agribuggy tyres and a Jimny,the utv although not the fastest vehicle is the best for us,the only downside was initial cost to buy.

@Drillman

Diesel Hilux, Rav4, Vitara, or Xtrail on floaty tyres will still be there in the morning.
Yep our farm motor never gets locked, no one would nick it and if they did they would soon get sick of the Fred flint stone handling and the vario gearbox (slipping clutch)

Oh the MOT man pointed out the tyres are no longer round either😂😂

The most basic doorless petrol Polaris is light and quick , won’t tow a lot though. If you want all the benefits of the bigger heavier diesel model then a repurposed lightweight Japanase truck may be worth looking at. If you are in and out of it dozens of times a day and trying to hook sheep on the move , doorless Polaris with bench seat and auto box is a lot less faff than a normal manual 4WD set up.
Father is on his second petrol polaris - but not without some maintenance. Mother in law has a diesel one (same age - 19plate) with doors and it’s a spitefully heavy slow thing in comparison to the petrol one with worse visibility. Friend of mine has the new Deisel polaris which goes like feck on the road, Try before you buy.

On our second can am and touch wood, no real issues.
Lad near us said can and snap track rods and can then steer / crash , I’ve no experience with them and would say it’s more down to bad maintenance.
We’ve had our Corvus for three years, it’s ( like all the others ) got good and bad points.
It’s not let us down and is used every day in all weather on steep wet ground , on moors and on road , it’s physically big with a roomy cab and large rear bed.
We’re just waiting on its replacement coming.
I had a kioti (3/4k off eBay) it did everything the Corvus can do but didn’t have the road speed or the little refinements.
That cost me a set of plastic bushes and a few uj’s in its time we had it
