Just curious what sort of cost people put to running a diet feeder with depreciation/fuel etc. are the savings in being able to feed more byproducts? Do cattle do much better? Sorry for going off topic

For our finishing cattle they are on red clover silage, grass silage and barley and are flying this year. Really pleased with how they are going.
Have you had your silage analysed? Will pay to get it done then you will know what to feed with it.

Feed plenty of raw potato here to finishers, as with all these byproducts, if they are close at hand and you can buy them sensibly then you will use them. Chips are cheap, brewers grains have gone short, not a problem, just move onto something else.

Have a lot of by products been redirected to AD plants now or is there an abundance, the bit that gets me is when lobbying groups claim veg/food etc is getting thrown away when actually they are been put to good use

How many kilos a head of barley can you get away with feeding in a tmr mix?

Might have a chance to get some forage maize. What will be the rule of thumb on how much to feed per head per day?

What type of cattle will it be for and what will it be fed with? Last year continental steers and heifers and angus steers were on 12kg/day angus heifers on 8 but only had about a month on it.

Cattle sound similar to you. At the moment they are having silage (crap analysis), straw and brewers grains fed tmr. I'm looking to put some cover on them and thought the starch in maize would be good?

Yeah it will be good for that. Does depend on price of it if it’s good value vs barley.
