Difference between a JD 2850 and 2650?

Is it really as simple as that Drdunc?? What a bonus!! Wonder what the difference in dealer price was for the same spec 2850 and 2650?
I really can't remember if they had bigger lift rams, bigger wheels and tyres, etc etc etc

I do know that it is very simple to open the pump on them. There wasn't a 4 cylinder anywhere round here that left the dealer with less than 100hp 😂

They were THE tractor to drive. Quiet, comfortable, and could give the contractors running ih 956's a good run for their money!

Our 2650 had the high lift arms option , assistor rams and hooks instead of ball ends. Fixed sway block meant adjusting a few implements to a wider spacing. I seem to remember lifting a rotorvator and it jamming up tight on the sways,took some lowering

That might explain why my 2850 (no assistor rams btw) pulls so well - some pretty big hills round here and I hardly ever have to come out of top gear or drop down on the splitter...

I take it they were adjusted on a dyno then?

They are identical tractors in every way other than the MFWD axles. The 2650 had a ZF APL325 and the 2850 had a ZF APL735. The MFWD clutch of the 2850 had an extra plate in too.
They used the same 4 cylinder turbocharged engine, same radiator sizes, same hydraulic pumps and rockshaft cylinders so would have the same lift capacity. Tyre sizes were whatever spec was ordered, both were available as 30/40k, standard or Hi Lift. SG2, low profile SG2, MC1 and CC2 cabs were available on all. There were odd changes through production to the bonnet latching, radiator style and some other minor bobbins..
Horsepower adjustments are best done on a dynamometer, that way you know what you've done. There's internal pump adjustment and the external 'torque' screw for best results.
Customers who had both 26 & 2850s even with the 26 turned up, they didn't pull like a 2850.
So, the tractor of choice would be a late 2850 40k Hi Lift (that's been looked after)!!

Not the model we are talking about but, I was once told the 3650 had slightly thicker castings in the back end compared to the 3350/3050. Sometimes there are more differences than you can see....

ive got a 36 and a 33 there’s quite a lot of differences, the assister rams are bigger the hydraulic pump is higher capacity, the engine side plates are ribbed on the back and pick up on another bolt too, the air intake system is bigger diameter, the front axle is a different model, I’m sure there must be more but that’s just what I’ve come accros while working on them, there both 40k but the 36 is slower
