Different protein types?

Recently been thinking about getting a liquid feed tank to get a product like pot black to help me reduce my feed bill a bit more. After talking to my feed rep I was told that I’d still need to buy protein to add in to all of my mixes.

in my head I’ve been wanting to use barley, redclover/ryegrass silage and pot black as a fattening ration for cattle, but I was told that the protein in the pot black and redclover is the wrong type of protein and I’d need to add some soya in. Does that sound right? Not sure if I’m just being sold something I don’t need

If the red clover is high enough protein you won’t need any additional for fattening stock. Normally it’s 15-16% but I have had it at 12 and at 20! Hard to tell until you get it analysed.

Thanks was just told it’s the wrong type of protein 🤷‍♂️
It will be urea protein which is entirely rumen digestable. To get proper finish and to get the most from the ration you need some rumen bypass protein, I assume then the clover protein must also be mostly rumen digestable. You don’t need a lot, I feed a lot of Alpha treated cereal which is the same and just add 25kg/ton of a soya/prarie meal based concentrate. The difference it makes is huge

25kg is enough to make a different my feed rep said 200kg a ton.

Would lovey brewers grains but I don’t have anywhere suitable for it.how much are malt pellets?
Haven’t used malt pellets for a while so don’t have an up to date price sorry. Used to mix MP with potato factory by products to balance out the protein but stopped using the potato products when the Bio digesters came on the seen and the price increased, and the availability decreased. Would have thought they would be around the £200 ton mark. The price was usually slightly less than the feed bean price.
