Diggers

Any of you got good website to look for diggers? Not having much luck
I think you might be being a touch naive if you think there’s a website where all the wonderful diggers are. You only OP’d on Wednesday... :scratchhead:

Go to a few large decent plant auctions, that are held every quarter or so like Ritchie Bros and Euro Auctions to get a feel for what’s available in your budget, and condition etc. Visit a few plant dealers in your county (or beyond if you don’t mind getting in the car for a half day jaunt). Not something you want to rush into.

I understand that. But for example if i was looking for a john deere i would go on rvt’s website and see what they have. Just thought there might be a similar thing with machines

It really helps if you can narrow down your search to a particular brand or model. Which maybe a challenge in itself.
Then I like to start with a google search of the preferred model, and select ‘images’ then flick through the pics, it usually fairly easy to notice the pics that are adverts. And then have a look at the ones that take your fancy.

Have a look at SJH Allplant , usually have an extensive range of stock, and Iirc have the prices displayed on the website. I’m not recommending them, I have never dealt with them, but have browsed their website a few times.

Well sort of...I have no clue how it works in your neck of the woods, but around East Anglia I could point you where to have a sniff about for Hitachi, Volvo or Kubota for example, there are several large well known plant (and Ag dealers) around the country that have hire fleet machines that they then sell on. It’s worth picking up a copy of Earthmovers at the newsagent and having a flick through the back pages to see what and who is selling stuff.

I would generally distrust eBay unless you really know your sh!t and/or do your homework on the seller and machine. There are decent machines on there but also a lot of fraudsters and pee takers. eBay has massive widespread appeal but there’s so much chaff to sift through and very little wheat nowadays.

In very general terms the smaller the machine, the more likely it is too have had lots of drivers and owners and potentially more wear and tear. 2.7 to 8 ton 360s represent the the equivalent of “mid range” 80 to 250 hp tractors - they sell in the highest volumes, hold their values the best (compared to larger or smaller machines) but also require a healthy degree of skepticism if your buying second or third hand, because they’re so popular.

Ebay can be OK if you treat it as any other advert. You arrange to see and try the machine and if suitable strike a deal. Invoice and machine numbers before parting with £.

Patch lead? Can u jump a 24v system off 12v?

Got a 12v tractor with a 24v starter motor[emoji848]
Yes, as long as you only go onto 1 battery (y)as for 24v starter running on 12v, it will be very lazy:sleep: is it not??? And patch lead is a small battery cable with a + and - battery terminals to connect 2 batteries to make 24v (y)

If you’re looking for a good 13 ton machine I can highly recommend case cx130 and doosan 140. They mightn’t be over popular makes but I’ve seen them out last hitachi in reliability hands down. Case is probably one of the easiest diggers to operate they are fast and smooth. Personally I think hitachi were over rated had 2 of them and plenty of trouble doosan never got a spanner in 4 years I had it sold it to friend and top ram is all he has ever done after 10000hrs case was a super machine would do as much in the day as zx200 hitachi.
