Diggy Diggy Hole

Long shot here, but are any of you direct drillers either going to be digging a hole to look at soil structure, or putting up a shed and digging footings in a field that is currently used for DD crop production? Ideally late this month / early next month?

I'm after some moderately large soil samples......

In an ideal world I'm after 18 samples, but they are going to be in the region of 100cm X 30 cm X 20cm deep.

And not too stoney.

Hence I was looking for sites that were about to have big holes dug anyway! I've been using soil pits etc for the tests but assuming it all gets the nod then I'm after two soil types or a "conservation ag" site and a conventional.

Don't know if I'm offering much beyond gratitude, a mention in the report, some free soil analysis. Could potentially throw in an article in known direct drilling magazine. Might stretch to a bottle of wine.

Funnily enough I've got a digger putting in a new water pipe at the moment. Going along a long term non- inversion tilled headland today. Next door field is no till and has been since autumn 2016, and could easily dig a few pits. Do have a few flints, but not too bad. Herts, not far from m1. Pm if any good!

Nor being fussy, but it might be a bit early! My project still has s lot of bits to get signed off on. But at the same time I probably need less soil than first imagined! I'll be in touch.

Have you got what you're after @teslacoils??
We've currently got a big water main coming through us. Our 4 fields that are affected are all perm. grass (and they've stripped the topsoil off now) but the farm next door but one to us is a direct driller (only been doing it a couple of years though) and I don't think they've got all theirs stripped yet.

It's still a bit early for me to come get some yet, as my project won't be running until the new year now, but thanks for keeping this in mind.

It may be that I end up looking for more farmers, but only needing a small hole and not needing to take much soil.
