Digital dermatitis, how do I eliminate it?

Last idea 2 baths beside each other, far better cow flow and stayed a lot cleaner

Seldom get any in older cow's (except a few problem cow's)

So I take it's plastic foot baths can you not buy 2 more and have 4 or just build a concrete one?

Ours is 8'wide, 8' long portable custom made one, on pallet forks for 330 cows

I did think about a concrete one but not going to be easily done
When I previously put two baths, one after the other they just shat in it even more

Ours is steel with a rubber Matt in the bottom, can't think cows would like the feel or sound of plastic too much. I'll take a photo tomorrow

Arla did some workshops about digi some really useful tips.
The vet that was speaking preferred long and narrow foot baths made it cost effective when using chemicals.

Is it being banned yet, they were supposed to ban it years ago.
Ive been using forumalin all winter, had a rep try and sell me some liquid lime, says them that use it have very good results. I tried mixing a bag of lime in the water bath last week, a lot of the cows feet have been stained white and to be honest the foot bath smelt awful after they'd all been through it.

Yeah I heard it was getting banned years ago. The vet recently told me as long as it's in a ventilated area it's not as dangerous as they originally thought.

It's more effective and likely less harmful to the environment than most of the alternatives. Heaps of copper going into the soil isn't good.

Despite religiously footbathing 6 mornings a week with formalin I've had terrible bother with dermi this spring,I'm convinced it's something dietary that's not helping.

I've found the best thing has been washing then spraying all the feet during milking with Lincoln-spec,they're turning a corner now.

Has anyone tried healmax gel only started using it recently but makes them kick a bit when it's sprayed on.

When lifting a cows foot and finding it has a really bad case of digi our vet recommended to us to give it a course of pen strep as the digi bacteria is sensitive to the pen strep . It works well for us but when talking to Sara Pedersen she disagreed with the pen strep bit .

On a side note some on here we're talking about potassium permanganate are they still talking about digi or has it had a 100% cure rate .

I just bandage with some copper paste

Potassium Permanganate didn't do much good here, back on good old formalin.

All we do is rub 2ml of tylan on it works a treat.

We sometimes spray a few in the parlour, but it never cures them, they improve a bit but it doesn't go away

They said at the Arla meeting there was a trial in the states and there was no benefit to use a bandage? Just to clean and dry and apply a product to help healing

That's what foot trimmer tells me, but in my experience bandage is definitely better

Clean it, dry it and then rub the tylan in with your finger. Sometimes repeat 2-3 days later, an old vet advised us

Have you tried tylan powder?

It won't help with elimination, but what do people think about avoiding all direct and indirect contact with sheep? Does this help reduce the problem?
