Buy a big, cheap drill. Ring up some dealers and hire what yoke you need for a week? Never seen a dealers yard without something in it that would work, and they'll all hire them out rather than sit doing nothing.

In my experience dealers that aren't set up for hire won't hire things out because if you take a quad for a week at say £1500 hire charge and the gearbox goes because its 2nd hand with 5000 hours on it, then the dealer has massively lost out. If you want to hire go to Ian Houlgrave who species in hiring challengers.

Suppose it depends where in the country you are. Extended demo, call it what you like. Yards and yards full of tracklayers under warranty up here. Maybe different for four tracks but never had much hassle getting a cat for a week when needed in the past.

Do you notice any ill effect on the scuffed headlands?
yes and no. It depend how strong and dry is the topsoil... is it heavy mg clay soil or light turf in mid august, with straw and stubble or after cover crops. Overall I had been used it(765B) in front of Sumo DTS 4m, usually on 20m headland turns , even without tillage legs off I was still able to level some surface demages and final headlands was acseptable no to say more... headlands always is performing better to be honest in all kind of crops. I still cant answer why maybe this better microtilth is the answer, I can guess. In some situations my 770 TT leave similar results. Next season will be with Dale drill eco XL 10m width behind 765b and hope to see big impruvements due to not so tight turns and rtk advantages to choose go in wider U lines.
Why I use truck crawler, because it leaves very small percentage of field footprint compared with wheeled double wheel equipped tractor, and in my situation with high Mg clay soil wich is basicly never 100% dray enough to me, it is very important what I found here. Hope it helps You(y)

Thank you for your reply. I’ll be in touch when I’ve tried it on a larger scale and more land types.
