Mzuri drill takes some pulling if your doing a good job with the leading tines. Depending on soil type and wear rates of metal he will need to be between £25 and £32 ac.
I have charged about £23/acre in the past with the 750.
I'm going to establish the rape this year with a short disc and seeder on the back with a contractor as osr tends to have a bit of toxin establishment issues. I think its about £16/acre + jucie.
Quite a variation in methods and prices!
At the moment a neighbour drills some OSR with a Mzuri
and elsewhere we plough and powerharrowdrill.
Can't say we've noticed much yield difference.
Would OSR root enough with the shallower systems?
I’ve had good results with direct drilled osr sown with a Rapid into soils that weren’t ready for DD. The yield wasn’t much lower but the costs were less and the blackgrass control was much better. It would take longer to wake up in the spring and some roots went sideways before finding a fissure to go down. For a yield averaging 30 cwt/acre and a price of £250/t back then it was worth stripping the costs down.
