Direct drilling rates?

Someone I know is purchasing a direct drill and is
looking at doing some contract work.
What should he charge for OSR and corn drilling an acre?

Tell him to work out the actual cost. This includes the depreciation of both tractor and drill, the cost of wearing metal, his own time (at a proper hourly rate, none of this £8 an hour bulls**t) and the diesel he will burn etc. Then at least double it.

Any less and it's a waste of time, no what business you are in.

How will he know depreciation and running costs of drill if he's only just bought it. Won't know depreciation of tractor till he sells it?

Hence asking question on here.

Same way as any other business, you make an estimate based on the things you can reasonably foresee and take an educated guess at the things you don't know for certain. Then as time goes on you adjust your forecasting model to account for what you have learned.

Farming is no different to any other business at the end of the day.
