Direct drilling stripped linseed stubbles

Wondering if anybody has drilled direct into stripped linseed stubbles. Looks like there could be some issues with wrapping If the soil is damp with the depth wheels picking up soil and also some of the stems etc? We've got a Weaving GD drill. Would be very interested to hear other people's experiences.

Cheers

Saw a neighbour do some with a Simba dd into stripped linseed a couple of years ago. Soil was dry and the following wheat crop was good. They did get a little bit of wrapping round the bearing of the little spiked covering wheel which had to be cut off everyone now and then.

Yes, I do it every year. Moore Unidrill and have also used a Bertini triple disc drill with lots of discs and slot closers turning all the time.

Won't go if the soil is too wet, but then unless you have very light land, you shouldn't be drilling with a disc drill anyway. Also, a bit like when you combine the stuff, the stubble needs to be dry, so no good rushing out at six in the morning with a heavy due on, or battling late into the night, just be patient. You will always get a bit of wrapping around turning things, but as long as it's dry, you can pull it off now and again.

Well, have drilled 100 Ha wheat so far and so far so good. The drier the ground is getting, the better we are going. I would nearly have said it's easy but it's linseed and it's fairly long, so don't want to speak too soon! Thank god it hasn't wrapped like I thought it might. Fingers crossed for plenty more dry weather.

Ah but......your ground and our ground will be at different ends of the spectrum Clive. It was heavy wet soil that was the root cause of the problem initially but this bit of dry weather over the last few days has made the difference.
