Fantastic job and thread Wombat .

Amy thoughts of going into production ?

asking for a friend [emoji3]

Thanks for the comments. Haha no I think my wife would divorce me if I went into mass production 🤣

If you wanted to go toolbar and didn’t want to build one yourself then I think I would get weavings to build one.

Have you fitted the oil cooler yet? Would be interested to see it in situ. Where did you source it from? Any thoughts to fit a heat exchanger to warm the air flow? Not a necessity of course.

Really smart build. (y)

No not yet, been having a few other jobs on. I am going to mount in on the back right hand side of the hopper (same side as land drive wheel). Was worried if i put it on the front i might end up damaging it when pulling up to hedges etc. It will be mounted on 4 antivibration mounts, came from Mr Happy. Should be on before xmas along with a couple of speed sensors for fan speed as we have no monitoring box at the mo

Were you having issues with hot oil @Wombat ? I run a set up with two hydraulic fans with no issues and no external cooler.

Local dealer up here used to always put 1" couplings on the return pipes for accord hoppers to save back pressure.

I actually run my front hopper with no qr couplings and 5/8 return hose. Back fan has 5/8 or 3/4 return line through a 3/4 qr coupling.

Yes I only have a smaller 115hp tractor with 65l/min gear pump and no spool flow control and even with a good free flow it was starting to get warm.

But How warm is too warm?
My oil cooler on Mzuri drill started leaking so I just took it off (I have already changed it two years ago). And this season was running without one. Tractor JD 7820. No issues on drill or tractor performance. But I started monitoring oils temperature (was not paying attention when the cooler was on) and on the hot day temperature was reaching 95°C.
So would anyone know how hot is too hot? I would not want to ruin tractor or the drill. And what oil temperature would be normal with the cooler?
Thanks.

I would not want to see much over 95-98c, i think looking through some old fendt manual i have they alarm at 98degC.

Mine wasn't this hot but it was starting to make some issues in the linkage control one evening (fine the next morning) so i decided to add one as a precaution.

Really impressed by this project.
Just thinking about the power requirement of the fan (and all the associated problems of hot oil etc), I don't suppose there's any way you can use gravity on a 3m machine with a modified hopper over the frame...you'd lose the balance of the front mounted hopper, but need a lot less power to run the outfit? Sorry, not being critical, it's just making me think!

I have an oil seed rape drill I made by cutting down a Nordsten seed box and doing a similar idea but was a bit concerned of the weight with half a tonne of wheat and the size of hopper needed.

Hopefully the oil cooler will sort this, it wasn’t crazy warm but when I had a bit of an issue with the linkage I wanted to drop the temp. I might also be putting on a different tractor at some point

Coming along nicely

A few spots have got punished by the water.

The forage rape experiment was a success and failure in one. The drill worked but the rape didn’t roughen and break up the surface enough so it has mostly drowned in the last 3 months monsoons, so will be redrilled with sb or sw but it was only 4 acres

The pleasing thing i think is the fact we couldn't have got this wheat into bare stubble, in Oct any other way i don't think
