Any tips on building a dd? Anything you’d do differently? We have a 4m folding freeflow that has a well built frame, the hopper is ok but an accord style would be better. Would this be any good for conversion ?
Thanks

Sorry for the late reply, at the moment I have only done 14 acres as it’s rained pretty much everyday since. At the moment it’s worked as planned, so will see how the crop comes, I have had to pellet it’s as we’ve had a slug explosion here (on all fields not just this one)

I would have a sketch out what you want to achieve and have a go, as I said in another posted I thought about converting an old cultivator but it was easier and simpler to make a new frame for these. I would also get some parts laser cut, certainly getting the central spine done like that certainly made it easier. With hindsight I might have made them a bit more fancy to include the top link frame. Also it will take longer than u think regardless, it’s all the small things like making top link brackets and fillers etc that suck up sometime.

Also a general thanks for all the comments it’s much appreciated. Hopefully it will give others a bit of an idea for something or to have a go even if it’s a different tine/disc or other conversion.
I've never built anything in my life and I'm not much of a welder but you might just have inspired me to do something this winter to allay the boredom of not having any cattle. Also I was going to have a word with @Hfd Cattle he built his wife a cracking shed this summer and mine has been asking for one.

if any is looking to make one and wants 3pt link plates I have some on file for the machines I make. Cat 2 or cat 3. Any adjustments can be sorted no bother. Laser cut up to 15mm.

The lines at 45 degree angles are moles

The stuff I planted into the forage rape has come but it’s crazy wet so some areas I don’t think will make it as I couldn’t get it drilled last year and the stuff I put in in spring didn’t grow so it slumped a bit before the forage rape got down into it but as a test it proved it works.

Put a picture in the pictures thread but one today

I actually did one strip up a heavier field next door the day after after 5mm of rain and though it wasn’t good enough to carry on.

Looking at this maybe I was wrong as with some pellets it would have been fine I think, there is a heavier corner where I did a bit with not a lot in though but 90% would have been fine I think

Any idea how this machine would work on grassland to inject some fresh seed? Or would you need one of the ones with the slitting discs on the front and a rear roller?

I am not sure to be honest, it was only done for cereals at the moment. I might try it in some grass next year and see but it might need discs for that

@Wombat - thanks for this, I feel a project coming on and this is a great reference indeed.
Didn't want to bombard you with likes and alerts but it's extremely useful.. like you, had considered a cultivator conversion but like your frame much much better. Cheers (y)
