Dirty Dysect

I’m using dysect for tick prevention, did the lambs with 8ml through the t-bar at marking(20th May), same time as last year (used 10ml last year) which worked well, but this year it has left dirty backs on the lambs that is showing no signs of disappearing, which is frustrating, really takes away from the lambs, which will all be sold store. Has anyone experienced this at all?

Used to be a regular occurrence when dysect was first released.

Don't really see it happen much now (I think the manufacturer tweaked the recipe abit years ago).

Possibly increased chance of a black line if applied before rain IMO

I would almost have said it could be the lack of rain this year around that time, letting dirt/dust get into it whilst it was still oily. Some of them tho look like it might have caused a skin reaction and it’s maybe the remnants of this that can be seen in the wool.

Frustrating because I know it works well on the tick front, and didn’t cause a problem at all last year. What are the alternatives? I don’t rate spot on too highly, crovect?

Crovect is good for ticks... BUT young lambs, you need to do them twice 3-4 weeks apart to give full cover (first spray isn't very big, nor is the 2nd but its a top up as the lambs grow). And it only lasts 6-8 weeks

Whereas you will well know, 1 spray of Dysect and you've got 12wk cover.

Dysect is known to 'singe' the wool. I tend to notice it most on poorer doing lambs - the best lambs rarely seem to have any marks... the issue is definitely a lot better than it used to be. Sadly I don't know any 'cure' for it

I'm not sure if it's because the poorer lambs are thriving less, or if it's because they're smaller they have less wool so the dysect/oil based carrying agent log the wool which means dirt gets bound in easier.

I ran my ewe lambs through my yard last September, tailed them and sprayed them with Dysect. Fortnight later they were back in to tag then I trailered them to the hill they are wintered on - I was surprised how oily their skins were still from the pour on. I didn't take any ill effect from working with them, but I could feel the oil on my hands and there was a very faint wiff of Dysect to it after handling them..

Ewes were done pre lambing and a few of them were still green on the skin at clipping last week. Some of them looked like they’d reacted a bit too, almost a bit scabby looking, like a dermatitis reaction to the stuff.

I have had this problem before when using Dysect. It spoils the look of the lambs when selling either in the store or fat.I think it often happens if it rains unexpectedly just after treating them, especially if you get a rogue thunder shower.
