Disc bearings

Good evening all,
I have a disc that is in need of a new bearing. As you can hopefully see from the picture it is very worn as the one on the left should look like the one on the right! I would just like to check with one of you experts that these bearings are made out of brass. Or do I stand corrected?
Would it be possible for somebody to manufacture one for me on a lathe?
I do believe that it is from a less known plough brand such as Fisher Humphries or Lister or such like.

If you can measure it inside and outside and length, I can see if its the same as a Ransome disc bearing,
Would be rather costly to make a new one out of brass, I could do it on the lathe,
If same as Ransome, new ones are about £30 off westlakes,


Edit, ransome ones are not brass, but a steel outer shell with a cast liner

Still not cheap for size... as one would expect I guess.

I wouldnt be using Oilite, it seems very brittle and doesnt like shock loads, I have used it on a similar application and it didnt last five minutes, broke up.

Made some wooden ones out of Elm for a mates plough discs, plenty of grease and he is still using them years latter.

Would plastic work? Easily machinable and needs no grease. I used blue water pipe as a temporary repair to the deck wheels of a ride on mower. 3 years later the are still as good as the day I did them.

What are the spindles like? May be best to make new oversize spindles, and bore the bearings out to fit. Or bore the bearings and insert thin wall bushes, if the spindles are ok

What about Hornbeam? It is very hard and was traditionally used for cogs in watermills.

We got some hardworking nylon ones made. Lasted fine ......For a week and then soil and grit got embedded in the plastic and instead of the plastic wearing it cut deep into the spindle.
If you can't get them full length then put one in from either end with a spacer between.

Fergie discs had oak bearings but of course the bearings were massive and the amount of play did not really matter. In the case of a smaller semi precision job I guess the result would be similar to nylon ie. an abrasive carrier. You might be better off using a steel alloy

Ransomes one is 42.80mm on the outside as apposed to your 41.29mm !!
Overall length and inside diameter are the same,

So an easy option for you is to buy Ransome ones off Westlakes (@ £35 ish each) and turn the outside down in a lathe to fit,

Dont know why you dont do away with the Ransomes stuff and put something like this in it's place, simple to make up an arm to mount onto the disc stalk, you could make it adjustable to change the undercut or overcut. You would obviously need to find a disc with suitable PCD or redrill the hub to suit the existing discs. The amount of hammering these take on my Vaddy drill, they'd outlive all the plough owners very easily!!!
