Have got a calf with discharge from Virgina, she is7 months old .Discharge is same colour as the whites. Never seen this before and been working with stock all my life. Would treat it as whites if it was fresh Calver.
Has she got a temperature? Could be wrong but I thought the current thinking over whites/retained cleansing was not to treat with AB unless there’s a temperature with it.
Have only just got cows and calves in so haven't checked temp yet. With the dairy cows I used to wash them out myself, because we used to do DIY AI we used to do that as well but not seen a calf with it before unless it is something completely different. She might clean herself up when she come bulling
It may be pyometra, metronidazole or even prostaglandin may bring it right.
If it were mine, I'd probably glove up, sweep/flush with saline, and if it came back then it's a vet job -
Milkloss is correct in saying that without a temp, it's probably not worth jumping straight in with the ABs unless advised by a vet
