Very valid point, every year at sea men die after entering enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation, prehaps a job for an experienced caver. But whatever you do, do not leave it, it needs to be investigated, historic England would do it I’m sure.Local legend tells of a few tunnels around here, one which supposedly runs a mine and a half.
In Essex the farm where I was living was part of a manor. The farmer told me he went down a tunnel they found, similar to yours, he didn't find anything but only just managed to get back out through lack of air.
Strange how everybody knows isn't it.Almost every Monastery has a "secret tunnel" that leads, invariably, to the local Priory
