A GoPro and a decent light on a remote control toy car? One of those go anywhere 4wd ones.

There are rumours of tunnels all over the place round here, mostly associated with smuggling, but I only know of one house where they definitely still exist, and have friends who have ventured a little way up them. There's no way you could persuade me to do it!
Most farms here have a well that's 250 to 300 feet deep, so there's been plenty of excavations that we know about, so it's all perfectly feasible. I seem to remember that most Famous Five books involved going down a well to enter a secret tunnel!

Over the years we have found a few tunnels while digging in Aberdeen , largest one was from a really grand old farmhouse , surrounded in the 1970s by a council housing estate ,the farmhouse was owned by 2 spinsters who were the end of line so they gifted house to community , we were in carrying out dampproofing works in basement , and discovered X tunnel behind walls , apparently according to history books it lead to a cathedral which was some quarter a mile away , I didn't venture in

Local legend tells of a few tunnels around here, one which supposedly runs a mine and a half.

In Essex the farm where I was living was part of a manor. The farmer told me he went down a tunnel they found, similar to yours, he didn't find anything but only just managed to get back out through lack of air.

Very valid point, every year at sea men die after entering enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation, prehaps a job for an experienced caver. But whatever you do, do not leave it, it needs to be investigated, historic England would do it I’m sure.

We stuck the camera down off the tractor and wired it to the pickup, I’ve got a recording on the gro pro that I will have a look at tonight. From what time we could see It’s gets to the house and looks like concrete has poured into it, so no exciting underground rooms, but it defiantly went into the house below floor level. I will upload the video if it’s any good

@RushesToo .... I`ve arrived!

Could be a priest hole, could be a culvert, could be anything you want it to be... its how urban myths & rumours start!!

Almost every Monastery has a "secret tunnel" that leads, invariably, to the local Priory...... ;)
