Discovery 4 engine seized

The emissions are on paper less on the earlier version of same engine... this is the unaffected EA288 Engine family
then UK Gov changed the tax rules forcing all cars that emit any emissions to pay the min of £140/yr now
the £20 road tax charge on many smaller or less polluting cars has now gone.
the only ones that get FREE Road Tax are the 100% electric ones
Its free in London as below:
Cars or vans (not exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight) which emit 75g/km or less of CO2 and that meet the Euro 5 standard for air quality qualify for a 100% discount on the Congestion Charge.

My point on your tax disc is had it been a true reading of its emissions it would be higher.

Yes we had a 2012 Audi hatch with 1.6 Tdi engine that lunched 2 injectors in rapid succession within a month on having EA189 applied. Both were repaired gratis but Audi made me sign a slip that said words to the effect that the injector fault was nought to do with the emissions update. Car was sold within 3 months.
I've not really followed the "VW fix" what are they actually doing in the software "fix" that is causing injector failure

Latest I have read on LR forum is a 2016 with just over 20,000 miles , I was hoping 2016 would be okay as mine is 2016 and there was an update in hp in 2016 which I thought might be a change over point or something , it appears not :-(
I have a 2016 model Disco I was hoping that they would have got the engine problems sorted by now. I did trade a 2010 Disco 4 with 120k miles with no probs so fingers crossed this one will be ok. Still under warranty perhaps will have to look at extending warranty.

Most of VW Caravelle and Californias due for delivery from mid Dec are sitting in dealers yards or in Germany not allowed to be registered due to an emissions problem during regeneration cycle I believe waiting for the software fix to be approved. Relatively low numbers but still extremely frustrating.

Why didn’t they just do what they did last time and fiddle the emissions software

I guess each manufacturer has their own problems. Merc engines must be pretty good too ?
They have had their ups and downs. Seized engines after oil changes where the filter was left off while the sump was empty was an issue with the V6 diesel. Oil sludgeing in the petrol ones under their flexible interval until they upped the oil spec to 227.? [can't remember] and 228.3 or 5 from 228.1

On the whole they have been OK as far as I know.

Hangon you still have to pay for Road Tax on any car anywhere within the UK that was registered i think after april 1st 2017
there on forward the only ones that are free are ZERO emissions IE fully Electric like the Nissan LEAF for example.
even a humble 1.2lt diesel or petrol car is still now £140.00 to tax.
My 2014 Car doesnt fall into this Trap thankfully & remains at £20 & it will be like that until the gov poss change it, just to add its a VW engined 2.0lt TDI with 184hp & atm has no issues relating to there ongoing DIESELGATE scam. Infact i'll even add all the things that were poss wrong with the EA189 series of Engines are fixed in my model.
Also this Congestion charge has no bearing on me as ive never been inside the capital city with any car of mine & most prob never will be neither.

Very soon diesel engines in passenger cars will be largely dinosaurs because everything will be hybrid. So no more EGR or DPF as you can simply have a petrol engine with the torque and fuel economy of a diesel. Manufacturers arent going to bother developing hybrid diesel drivetrains that simply will not sell outside of Europe.
Such a Shame as iam just a total diesel convert.
Diesel-Hybrid now ya talking.
Anyhow wont affect me for a long time as ive no need for neither esp my car to be replaced.
Deciding on next farm 4x4 is more interesting.

There's light and day between a 09 HiLux and an 18 HiLux, never mind comparing it with a recent VeeDub.
By the way, you just have [changed this topic into a pickup topic]. :joyful::cat::playful::hungry::woot::singing::clown:

I had the same problem last year, on a 2007 S type jag. Same v6 engine. Big end bearing shells moved seizing the crank. Apparently the problem became common after the introduction of DPF. Over fueling to clean the dpf excess fuel getting in to sump & then poor lubrication. JLR denied any existence of a problem. Again, a company that will never ever receive another penny from me.
