So every time we remove the receiver at night it would fry itself. Fantastic.

Just take the kit out at night and lock them in the office- end of problem!
Exactly. We had a Case demo tractor with GPS on and we removed the receiver dome and the cab screen and simply kept them in hotel room at night. Canā€™t pinch them so easily then. However thatā€™s not an issue for us casual users. If you use it every day clambering onto the roof to take it off is a faff but far less hassle to do this than have it pinched.

To be fair its not every day the GPS is even needed, probably only a third of the time

I mean Iā€™m no technological expert but Iā€™m pretty sure in the world of telematicsā€¦ JD link all that rubbish It should be very bloody easyā€¦. Farmer rings police ā€œmy GPS has been stolenā€ ā€¦ then he rings his JD dealer ā€œcan you tell me where my GPS dome is please?ā€ā€¦. JD dealer gives an exact grid reference for where in the world the JD dome isā€¦ farmer then rings police and says ā€œhere you are lads this is where my JD dome is that got stole a few hours agoā€ā€¦ police go and retrieve and arrest the robbers šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Fcking joking right?

Biggest issue would be to find a hotel handy for most users without going to far out of our way on the trip home.

So the reciever(dome) now needs to be built into the tractor as does the screen as 2,3,4 or 5 piece units and come as a standard fit with the log in being the cash cow.
Remember the good old days when the local yobs would smash the car side window and be off with your radio(cassette player:eek:) in seconds and cash it in down the pub in an hour.
AFAIK those days are gone primarily because each car maker built the radios as 2 and 3 piece items built into the dash . Don't fit other makes of car and fitting it to every car reduced demand.

With a small impact driver, 1 x 10mm socket, 1 x torques fitting . I could easily have the receiver out of the roof of a fendt in less than a minute. Maybe 2 if you have to smash the door to get in cab.

I don't doubt you could, know very little about Fendt but sounds like the receivers are under the roof skin and perhaps hidden completely so mr.light fingers doesn't know if the tractor has a system fitted which would be a help but even better if all Fendts have this system installed then there would be no point in pinching it. As I said the cash point then being the log in codes.

Are these unitā€™s being stolen as badly worldwide?
Surely the reply insurance companies must be jumping on tractor manufacturers to make these GPS systems detectable or inoperative unless one has a password or something you have to enter into the device to enable it to work.
But as some have said there are some very clever people out their working as thieves!!

Yes where I worked in Canada and America it was a big deal. Don't remember hearing much when I was in NZ or AUS.

I have thought about getting some one with a 3d printer to make a different coloured dome with post code name etc molded in to the plastic. If it was possible. And maybe some sort of tracker molded in as well
I would like to think any thief would take one look at my printed receiver housings and decide that unbranded stuff won't be worth the effort. Only cost about Ā£250 to replace one of those receivers if they do take a fancy to them.

These arenā€™t simply optunistic thieves. These are targeted attack and they will know exactly what and where they are looking

The new JD solution should be the answer IMO.

Receivers built into the tractor in multiple parts and locations and importantly software activations locked to tractor serial number.

Unfortunately it will be a few years before I have a fleet with the new cabs.

In the mean time, Tracker now make a unit that will fit inside the domes ā€¦ until these become common place they are unlikely to look for it šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
