Need to thoroughly disinfect a shed before we start lambing in it. Wondering what is the best disinfectant to use in a power washer? Needing something potent and effective.

If you want a disinfectant then there’s little better than Virkon imo.

However, what are you trying to disinfect the shed? Are the sheep coming into it, or the bales for litter, going to be sterile, or are you just creating a blank canvass for any bugs to breed on?

Clean the shed out then introduce beneficial bacteria to swamp out the harmful ones with Pruex. It really does work.?

I have Virkon S. Just mix that up with water and put it through the power washer?

I've just been calving in it. Had a beast right bad with retained cleansing. She's grand now but it's taken 2 plus weeks to get her on right road. Shed thick with straw and slack dung off her.

Yeah im putting my BFL's in it soon to lamb so want it disinfected properly.

@neilo Would the Preux treatment have any effect on crypto? Had a couple of scouring lambs in the last of the early batch. Lost a small triplet and had it diagnosed as crypto. The last of the autumn calvers calved in the same shed across the feed passage and a couple of the last calves scoured a bit too so suspect the infection came from them. Have had crypto in calves in the past, but now that we have the mineral balance(especially selenium) in the cows diet sorted out, it hasn't really been a major issue. Just keen to get things right before and during the shed being used for the spring calvers and possibly March lambers if weather is bad.

Sorry, I’ve no idea. If you ring them they will likely know of people that have used it in calf units, were it would be a more common problem?
