What distance is required for new artic trailers, as I understand kingpin to front of trailer is 165cm on new artic trailers so what are people making dolly 5th wheel centre to drawbar eye.

Second question to move a artic trailer just out of service do you just press shunt valve to release brakes.

Shunt valve (black one) will work if you push red button as well , on newer trailers that is. Depends how much air it leaks though. Don't think there is a minimum distance from front of trailer to the pin, bunker trailers have pin at very front , walking floors pin is well back

If you’re fabricating a dolly the position of the axle in relation to 5th wheel is more important in order ro try and force some weight transfer onto tractor. Try and get a sliding 5th wheel off an unit.

Shunt valve will only release brakes after you’ve filled trailer with air and then it all depends how air tight the trailer is

IVE GOT AIR ON TRACTOR, BUT NOT AIR BRAKES, shite caps, someone recommended u rig up a red suzie from the pcl on the tractor so i can fill the trailer, seems sensible, then push red shunt?

Its a fixed (currently) 5th wheel but its over the axle (towards hitch) to as to push weight onto the tractor, looks like a cut of an old wagon so i would hope positioned in a sensible place, its looks reasonable for weight distribution.

I chopped drawbar out attached to the tractor and tuned it till it hit the wheels, then added some wood to simulate the trailer headboard and added a good leeway for moving about, assuming 1.6m from the kingpin, its added around 2 ft to the drawbar (was not particularly short but knew it would not work right) so hopefully it will be fine not actually sure what it measures now but i will check and report back.
