Distance on a map

I use an online planimeter for measuring area.Could anyone point me in the way of something for measuring distance?

There is no Go button, just left click on the map, a marker appear, then left click another point, another marker appears with a line back to the first marker, under the map the distance between the two points will have appeared in a box. Any number of individual markers can be put down, the distance being measured from each to next. The individual markers can be dragged as well for accurate aligning. Wonderful for hedgerow lengths, margins, that sort of thing.

There's also a load of similar map tools linked on the left of the page. Distance between UK postcodes is very useful, gives you as the crow flies distance plus shortest road distance as well. Use it all the time for pricing up hay deliveries.

Field area measure is an excellent app I find. Always using it to see if my 600m rolls of polywire will go the distance.

For route mileage, try www.theaa.co.uk. I find it pretty accurate.
