Diverting surface water

Just discovered that a neighbour has been into a field and has dug a channel to take road surface water into my field rather than down his drive. There is an existing system of a small plastic pipe which I assume drops into the field into a soak away which is no issue, this new channel has subsequently dumped grit and waste from the road into the field as the water is not directed across the surface rather than down.
I don’t mind take the water using the old system even if they upgrade the pipe size but I take exception to someone coming on my land to dig a trench and leave me with crap in the field.
I have filled in the trench on my side and will await a response but wanted to know if he can legally do that?

I should add that this guy has already annoyed me a bit by wandering into the field to cut the boundary hedge and left the majority of the clippings behind.

I'd let him know that in more ways than one he's crossed a boundary.
If he understands, then their wont be a problem.
If he has a problem with it, then set the f**ker straight.

He can’t trespass and alter things on your land. If he is below you I thought he was legally obliged to take your water....
