Having not done any concreting since November due to being too busy playing with animals I was shocked when I ordered some cement and ballast today.

Cement (2 pallets of 56) £4.00 per bag up almost £1 on the last lot.

Ballast - £19.80/t - up nearly £2 on the last lot

I’m too lazy (incompetent!) to do the maths but what would your home mix cost as compared to a full load of ready mix.

I appreciate you home mix probably because you want to be able to do smaller batches

I reckon that it will make my home mix about 80 per cube.

I haven't priced ready mix here but with literally thousands of houses being built in Essex all building materials are at a premium here, the last trucks that I had with R40 in them were 80 per cube if I took 7.5m and more than one load - this was 2 years ago, someone said that it was over 100 now.

Not worth my time and hassle mixing concrete as I am only 2 miles from leiths concrete plant, collect with a well sealed trailer if only needing a 1/2 cube or 2, or as most will say get the lorry in if you need a load you will never match there price or mix quailty

Wicks cement £3 per bag if you buy 10 or more.

Guessing that ballast is loose? Bagged is £30 some thing per tonne which isn’t a tonne.

Aggregate here is £21 /t collected from 4 miles up the road. Cement £2.75/ bag collected from 3 miles up the road.
Price for cement is via buying group and it doesn't matter if you have one bag or 100. Another company was cheaper at 2.50 bag on 30cwt pallets but they've now pit a hefty delivery charge on and there 20 miles away making it a pain collecting.

How much ballast goes into a 0.8 cube pan mixer????
