Diy Fec starter kit

I could be wrong but is it not just as cheap to buy this all in one go...

I bought all my bits separately and got a good microscope second hand from Am@zon. This link http://fectest.com/webshop/ will take you to the place that sells the links but you can buy all the bits separately.

:banghead:

I prefer to buy a stainless steel tea strainer because it comes with it's little dish for straining the fluid into - much easier than a beaker.

For anyone like me who has trouble with being sure what they are looking at :-

Cocci are tiny and if anyone has a good slide showing the relative sizes I'd like to see it.

Edit @neilo provided the latter I think. Your lije reminded me Neil.

How do you take the photos through the microscope? I haven't used a microscope in 40 years!

You can put your phone, camera or i-Pad lense against the scope and click or you can buy a special attachment that goes on the scope and feeds into you laptop but I've seen mixed reviews. I'll come back with a link if I can.

Edit https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0...C_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=microscope+camera I think this is the cheapest one that will do the job. It's often on spesh so you could put it on your wish list. You can pay a lot more from the same manufacturer for what are presumably better models.

Has anyone had anything to with fec pack won’t let me post link! It’s where you upload pictures of sample and they tell you how many etc for a yearly subscription

I'm sure it's been discussed before, and for a little bit of effort and expense on equipment and training you can do it yourself.

Also, I don't know how much MVF or even your vets charge but if it is £800 you can get an awful lot of samples done.

Never done it before but do agree shouldn’t be to hard to learn!
it looks expensive as you still have an annual sub after the first year as well!

You still have to collect the sample and process it for that service, which is the time consuming bit IME. The actual counting is pretty straightforward and gives you an instant answer of course, while the sheep are still in the pens or wherever.

Saw a genuine Fecpak kit at a farm auction a few years ago, nobody seemed to be interested before the auction, so I'd thought a bid of £100 would secure it.;) Someone else got it for £800. :(
