Diy tarmac

I have a good solid hardcore yard and could do with topping off with tarmac rather than excavate it all to concrete it. I asked a professional firm and it was about £9k. It's about 30 metres square.
Is it too difficult to diy large areas?
Has anyone any experience?

I have done a few small areas.
You need a good solid dry and level base.
A warm day is best.
Tools to do the job, a forklift/ loader to move material, some form of grader (on 3pt or forklift, an rsj with some skids will do) , a decent roller (easy enough to hire) , rakes, a couple of people to help.
It will arrive hot, but much like concrete will 'go off' quickly. Don't have all 10 loads delivered at once !!!
Roll it roll it and roll again !

I'm thinking of making some kind of grader box/blade to fit on the telehandler @Dave W !
Lay a couple of 4 by 3 timbers about 10 ft wide apart and pull the grader along them then roll. Simples!
I will price an 8 tonne load and fetch it myself. What could possibly go wrong:D:scratchhead:

I got a firm in to do a small job for me. Worked out about 2.5t or so. Having watched them do it I'm now pretty sure I can lay anything I need in future without a problem. As with everything, it's easy once you know how....but an expensive mistake if you don't!

You could bolt the 4 x 3 timbers (or a bit of steel box section) to the underside of the grader, that way you wont keep tripping over them or damage them with the roller !!!

I think you'll struggle collecting it yourself, it will probably go cold by the time you get it home.
