Diy tarmac

You will need to cut out the old bits with either a jack hammer or floor saw. Yo need a nice clean, square edge to join into, you will also need some boiling bitumen to pour on the joints before you fill the patch. That way it sets cold, then the new warm tar heats the cold bitumen and forms a seal to prevent water getting under.

You'll probably need a gas burner to warm bits up that have gone cold before it's been properly rolled.

Don't try and do the whole patch in one go. If it's 6m x 5m then do it in 3 2m strips, or it will be cold at the side you started at by the time you get to the other side.also, it's easier to try and keep it level to prevent puddles.

It maybe looks a straightforward, easy job, but there's more to it than you would think.

I have a good solid hardcore yard and could do with topping off with tarmac rather than excavate it all to concrete it. I asked a professional firm and it was about £9k. It's about 30 metres square.
Is it too difficult to diy large areas?
Has anyone any experience?
30 metres square?
Do you mean 30 square metres as in 10 by 3 or do you mean a square area 30 by 30? There's a difference of 870 square metres between the two.
