Dizzy spells?

Have been having serious dizzy spells putting me on the floor, only last a few seconds and do not loose consciousness but get serious palpitations for an hour or two after . These happen once a fortnight roughly. Had every test under the sun, exercise test, echocardiogram, tilt table test, heart monitored for a week nothing happened. I developed an arrhythmia about 6 months ago and only went to the doctors when an episode happened in front of my Vet who got a stethoscope and listened to my heart and told me to get to the doctors sharpish. Anyone else had similar symptoms and found out what it might be??

Sounds like either a blood pressure problem, or it could be a hormone imbalance. Go back to your GP and ask for a full range of blood tests, including vits and mineral balance. Could be something as simple as lack of iron....
Oh, and get a print out of the results, go through them using the net, and see if something springs out. I have been told my results were "normal" but when I got them, they were waaaaayyyyy off!

Symptoms of paroxysmal AF or other arrythmia. When your heart was monitored for the week did you have to wear a band or chest leads continuously? Were you aware of it happening during any monitoring? Would certainly persist with the Dr until you get a diagnosis.

Yes had blood tests but will ask for print out as was told they are normal so thanks for that

Hi

When you had the echocardiogram did they check your carotid arteries.?

5020 man
Cannot remember but will ask at next appointment

Have you had an active stand test - heart rate and bp checked whilst laying down, then immediately on standing and 2, 5 & 10 mins after standing up?

That is the Tilt table test strapped to a table then for 15 mins laid down checking BP and heart rate every 5 mins then they tilt you upright for 45 mins taking BP and heart rate every 5 mins Everything normal.

Yes chest leads for a week had bouts of palpitations but no dizziness.

My arrhythmia is constantly irregular my heart beats 6 normal then 3 fast all of the time when I get palpitations it beats like a train and incredibly strong if I rest on the table with my arms folded its like the scene in Jurrassic park when the dinosaur is coming and the tea in the cup on the table is moving .

Please mention to your doctor BPPV syndrome, easily cured with a few gentle head movements by your GP (if he has heard about it) Write it down so you do not forget it.

Quite simply it is caused by loose crystals of calcium in your inner ear, they can become dislodged on their own, but more often than not something as simple as a sharp jar to the head like you do if your heel slips down a curb or a step.
The dizziness happens when you move your head, so can occur in your sleep as you have described simply by turning over on your pillow.

It is also easy for the GP to give a definitive diagnosis, by him/her moving your head through a series of manoeuvres.

Unless a GP has seen someone with it, they do not often know about it, despite it being relatively common.

It is also important you describe whether your symptoms were a spinning motion or a tumbling motion, the latter being uncommon in episodes of vertigo, but will point him/her to other diagnosis.

Good luck.(y)

The key thing to BPPV is that you get dizzy in bed - this is the real clue. My GP sent me for a scan - I just did the movements myself and cancelled the scan - has not come back so far and this was about 5 years ago!
Yours sounds much more like Arrythmia but that should have been picked up on the monitors, although it has been known that as soon as someone is strapped up, the heart behaves itself until the instance the straps are undone!

@Sir loin If you have arrhythmia you may need a pacemaker - and it sounds like you do. The dizzy spells are when your heart has stopped pumping blood effectively and your brain has no oxygen.
Your Doctor needs to put you on a 24 hour monitor that just records your heartbeat and any episodes.
Go now, do not delay - this can happen when you are driving.

Ah yes, I couldn't remember which came first but it was the stand test then tilt table to officially confirm the results.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

iirc a friend of my ex SIL had to have a pacemaker fitted (she must have been in her early 30's with a young child) because she was having blackouts, including once when driving, thankfully very slowly. No problems since afaik. I remember it was difficult to diagnose but, they decided after the car incident that the problem was made worse when she had to turn her head sharply.
