fully functioning agricultural application drone from big main player manufacture DJI not a start-up/crowd funder etc but agricultural tech we could all buy and use TODAY if only UK legislation allowed

pity the poor sod who is refilling it, while Clive is in his office doing the flying :)

it would not take too many at 10 acres an hour!

Imagine how many of these you can buy for the price of a self prop sprayer or a tractor and sprayer?

I expect a very low volume application is possible with the assistance of the downdraft ?

so let's say you have 10 of these things all working away on their preset routes (done from the office) landing to be refilled and battery changed every 2miniutes buy a man with a nurse tank I reckon you could cover a few acres a day !!!

now imagine that with a bit of AI software they can identify and treat individual weeds - not much refilling going on then, big cost saving and much better for the environment as well

I will be sure to check it out, I suspect we will spend a lot of time in hall 13 -its what I love about Agritechnica, proper innovation and stuff you have never seen before

combine that with the WeedIt / Weedseeker technology that already exists commercially . . .

I quite agree , it looks the future, but having seen helicopters in action spraying, the downdraft effect may be a little interesting in a multi bladed vehicle. I am sure todays technology would not have issues sorting it.
it will require re looking at water volumes etc.
when we were band spraying sugar beet we got as low as 5 litre per hectare and in some conditions ( ie. it was a little breezy ;)) we had a clean sweep across the field when conditions were ideal
I can see we will require a lot of legislation and sadly, this will probably be the hardest part

Be even better if they could automate the batteries and tank filling.

Good for wild oats

Local helicopters company has invested in 1 already for smaller jobs.

Orchards are quite interested in them I am hearing as well.

In a few years when it can pick up weeds with a specialized camera I'll be straight onto it. $26k for that over here atm. So £13k but this technology is only going to get cheaper

I've studied this topic with great interest. The general consensus so far is that it mainly lends itself to specialist applications and spot (targeted) spraying, I therefore doubt it will be replacing our current boom sprayers. But maybe with docking stations and higher power density technologies it might become the Robomow of agricultural world used for spraying programs? The limiting factor seems to be carrying capacity, the chemical would either have to be suitable at higher concentrations or multiple fills, to accomplish spraying of a decent size area and this at the moment is the limiting factor preventing, I reckon mass adoption.

As soon as the mapping technology is there that can reliably identify the weeds then upload a spray map to the drone allowing direct targeting of the weeds this technology will really excel. The savings in chemical and environmental impact would make this solution a no brainer.
