In November Argos did a promotion on eBay for a DJI phantom 3 standard, £349 instead of 499, I thought it was just a sales thing and wouldn’t go back up, but after a beer or 3 I went online and checked their website and it said the same and had stock in local shop, I ordered, picked up in the morning and then Monday morning it went back up to £499, been back down to 449 since but not 349, well chuffed with it, great photos, will do all I need of one. Amazing what crops and fields look like from up high. Recommend to anyone.

camera is the same and so is the battery and flight time etc but the pro has a better controller and will fly the drone around 2km away, mine only did around 500m but I’ve since been given these Ariel upgrade things that you replace the standard one with and I’ve done 2.3km since with it, drops in and out of connection a bit which makes the heart race a bit
So easy to use as it’s all gps with phone so it just flys home when connection drops, well it has so far!! ;)

What would be the difference between standard and professional better batteries?

The pro has a 4k camera instead of 2k, it uses glonass as well as gps so slightly quicker at getting signal, it also has more sensors so can fly indoors and a better connection from drone to controller so you get better quality picture on the tablet and bigger range, I have the standard and it does everything I need.

I would think a farmer could justify vat reclaim perfectly well to an inspector - numerous professional uses from stock checking to Bird scaring and field mapping etc
Well in that case if your vat registered it could well make a second hand drone seem expensive.

Just out of interest, what power equivelant of zoom does the camera have?
from what height can it still see a sheep for instance or a cow.
Does it have enough flying time to do a boundary circuit of a 600 acre farm?

Which one, standard or pro as it sounds as though I’m wrong and there is a difference in camera between them. Unless I’ve missed a trick you can’t zoom mine. They quote 27 minutes fly time but I’d say unless you want a flat battery while up in the air it’s more like 20 min. You can count cattle from 100 meters up, but other than seeing that they are standing the right way up, it won’t show you much more than that. I think I’ve one about that height when I first got it, I’ll post it up and you can see.

That’s 84 meters up according to my app.

I cant zoom my standard, dont think you can zoom any of them but could once the footage was on computer.

As Matt says 20 min is about it for a flight at full speed they do 30 mph but that eats battery so I dont really know how far you'd get in total.

Highest ive been is 121m;)

Just so people are aware it’s illegal to fly above 400ft and must be kept within the line of site at all times, so 2.5 km may be pushing it. See the bmfa web site for more info they will also offer 3rd party insurance for a little ove £30 a year which covers into the millions if you hit/kill someone (it has happened).
It’s a great hobby to get into, I have a couple of smaller drones (no camera) but mainly fly heli’s

The heli’s Seem dear compared to the drones got nearly 3k in just one! Got a dji on my shopping list for this year though.
