Do not buy blind, you can’t be that desperate. We’ve got an 885xl in for what was a simple job turn into a big bill in minutes. They’re tough old buses but if the sleeves o rings go or an injector sleeve starts weeping etc or the t/a sh*ts itself your into many k repairs.

Has anyone here got experience with DMH tractors in Somerset? Looking to possibly buy a tractor, never ideal to buy unseen but will consider it this time, tractor is an 885XL.
Your better check export requirements now before thinking about buying anything from mainland uk. NI is same land mass as EU so going by requirements for fresh produce, I’d be surprised if you don’t need a cleanliness cert at the very least, I think getting it into NI could be tricky just now.

Could you not just drive it through the borders?

No.

I’ve a friend who’s business is doing precisely this export job and he’s at a stop.

I don’t know specifics, all I’m saying is be aware things have changed and check BEFORE spending money on something that can’t be brought home.

Hi Thomas,

I know Dan at DMH - They're less than a mile away from us. He's a lovely chap that i would trust, and i'm sure that he wouldn't let anything leave his yard with a problem, knowingly. DMH is a legitimate company/does exist etc. I haven't bought anything from him personally, although he has from us, and i do have him on the lookout for a couple of items for us at the moment. I spoke to him this morning & he said to give him a ring (You have his number from Facebook?!) anytime. The tractor came from a farm in Burrowbridge, and i'm sure that if you asked, he would provide you with details of whom it came from (If he's allowed to do that/If the previous owner doesn't mind), which might help you firm up anything that might be wrong with it or what sort of life it has had. I would offer to go and have a look for you (I can to check that it actually is there , if you like-Which i have no doubt it is!), but i'm not going to be much use by way of making a mechanical judgement i'm afraid.

Hope that helps,

Tim

Edited to say that i could get our local Ag engineer to go and have a look at it for you if you like - He is very good with our Matbro and Case 5150.....

Funny you say nothing over there?
Nearly Every advert or listing for stuff here is based in Ireland?

I had that problem last year the theres cheaper tractors out there rather than here. but it’s the faff of getting out there to view. It’s either the Irish or polish lads mopping up all the cheaper second hand tractors on the main land. They ring and leave a deposit on them for a few weeks untill they get round to picking them up deadlocking them couldn’t view three machines last year as the same guy had left deposits on them all.

While we have an 885 on the farm, I don’t see anything particularly special about that one that I would be travelling to England for. Its on the money, and they are never as good in the flesh as they are in pics. there are a few 895’s on DoneDeal but you will have checked them.

your local second hand New Holland specialist has a low hour 5610. Would be around the same price by the time you ship that Nash over

Tim, appreciate the response and your offer to have someone look at it, but i reckon i will have to pass. Been speaking to a dealer and importing to NI now is a balls so not worth it im afraid.
