Do any modern 4 cylinder engines hold their Rev's when going down hill?

As per title really as just getting feed up with pointing my JD 6125R down hill and watching the rev counter climb at speed whether on the road or doing anything really and far worst on PTO work especially in 540E as over Rev's machines far to easy so almost pointless to use?
What are other 4 cylinder tractors like? I know my local terrain is far from flat but tractors of yesteryear never seamed so bad or even my 30 series tractors.

Spread fertiliser with mine in 540e.

It's only on the hills that you'd never consider turning across where I'd need the brakes to keep the engine revs at 1550rpm 8mph.

Modern tractors with electronically set engine speed will maintain that speed up and down hill , my t6 didn't come with it unfortunately as it was a demonstrator, I will insist on the next one though

Vario Massey desperately needs an exhaust brake. Bad enough on road but they heve very little engine braking in field in low range . Use 3 of them and all the same, these are 6 cylinder engines . Dyna6 slightly better but none as good as the old dyna shift imo.

I am holding off replacing in the hope massey bring an exhaust brake as an option in a year or 2

Going down a not to steep hill on a four pot 516 with just a baler on, with the cruise control set at 45k, it soon gets to 50k, so sounds like its similar to yours.

I can't really see that they are much different to older tractors.
Just now the tractors heavier.
The load is heavier.
The tractor is driven faster.

Suggest you jump in an old equivalent with same gross weight and speed and compare.

My old T150 was 500kg lighter than my replacement. Shut the throttle back it was like applying brakes. First time hauling load back with new one did as I always used too and gave myself a bit of a shock. No deceleration at all.

I don’t know the answer to that. Just stating a fact. Ask any dealer!
Better oils.
Bigger valve area per cylinder.
Bigger oil lubricating pump.
Better easier running engine design.
Less transmission resistance.
Less hydraulic system resistance.
Could be a mix of any of the above or no doubt lots of other reasons.
@Cowabunga may have more knowledge on this.

I would have guessed that most engine breaking came from the compression stroke, when both valves are closed anyway? Never really thought about it before so might be wrong?
