I wear the same boots year round but here it’s not usually wet over winter but fecking cold. three weeks going into and out of winter can be wet muddy and all round a mess. Find if I’ve got the boots well oiled up with some wax leather waterproof treatment they are good. Need to be putting it on before the wet weather starts and keep adding every once and a while. Never did like wellies and refuse to wear them even now.

Buy yourself a set of meindl dovre extreme, gore tex lined, totally waterproof right to the top. I wear mine all year long, feet don't get cold in winter or too hot in summer.

I used to go through a set of riggers every 6 months and got sick of forking out £50-£80 on crap boots that ruin your feet.

Last for years and years if you look after them, hose them down and wax them occasionally when you see the leathers getting dry.

Best £280 you'll ever spend and it will work out cheaper over the years.

How are they in cold weather as in minus 10 and below. I crushed one foot a few years back and have circulation issues in it and feel the cold on that foot. Other one is a fire box in comparison. Ideally need one boot size 13 and one 10.5.

found most leather boots if in wet all the time let go after a while and start leaking
a few guys hunting wear lace up gumboots
bit more support that standard gumboots but not as good as harder tramping boots
what about snow boots over winter warmer and might be more waterproof

That faux fur lined sort of boot is delicious for the winter months but anything leather will want cleaning with a brush and saddle soap regularly and then waxxed or polished or similar to keep it in good nick. Being permanently wet or caked in mud/cow muck obliterates leather.

I remember when you could get brand new ex demo Argyll shortie wellies from Vale of Clwyd Farmers for about £4 ten or £4.50 in metric.
Good for about 10,000 miles before they needed to be sent away for a re tread, and they cornered well.

Never did me any harm, apart from occasional trench foot and a bit of gangrene; and a damn sight cheaper than yer poncey French Super Etendards or whatever they call em. So just think on.

Do any of you wear the above type of boots all year round, if so how do they cope with the wet winter?
Yes and i have worn German Para boots for 30 years, sometimes Swiss army boots which are also very good. Keep two pairs on the go , clean and dry and dress with dubbin the pair you are not wearing. Very rarely get wet feet even on the wettest day. If you dont want to use dubbin use sump oil which is very good at waterproofing. Grade one Para boots are about £60 and are virtually new.

I find them lot better than wellies or riggers for warmth. They're just a great all round boot but uve no doubt there are many other boots in the high top hunting style that will be equally as good ie harkila and chameau. You get what you pay for

Funny how the older farm men around here ( long gone now unfortunately) i remember saying how the best invention in modern farming was the Wellington boot.

I've always worn high leg boots but there are some things you just have to wear wellies for.
If you're taking then off more than once a day it's a pain to lace them back up again plus your trousers get the works.

Spend money on decent comfortable boots and equally on decent comfortable wellies.
I have no problems spending more money on work boots than any other footwear. I'm in them more than anything else.
