And lower medicine prices. Rid ourselves of tick, scab, lice, bvd, johnes.

Give grants for spraying and improving buildings and infrastructure. Rid the countryside of weeds and bracken.

Surely this is the way forward.

Millions is wasted in the current set up.

The amount of money that goes towards the SfP could be put to much better use for those actual farmers.

Only things Id maintain are LFASS and calf scheme.

Much as I agree with most of your post, esp ridding ourselves of the bracken scoundrel!

But.......... so we produce more lamb/ beef/milk/ crops etc.......... where will that leave us?
Prices are already crap across the board.

Getting rid of subs would not do alot of good...

The red tape will never go, so cross compliance would have no benefits to counter the negatives. Prices for produce would never raise to realistic levels - we cant compete on the world stage because of the £.

The only benefit to subs going would be the vast acres of land available for dirt cheap rent almost over night...

They maybe but then their welfare standards are a lot less than the UK so hence they wont treat stock where as in the UK you will have to.. ( and quite rightly so ) .

rubbish again. Where do some of you people get these ideas from?
There is little difference between these nations in legislated welfare standards except for the timing of lamb tail docking that is impractical for NZ farmers to carry out near birth. We share the same markets, and therefore the conditions of farming, transport and slaughter practice are set by the market. If NZ processors sell to Sainsburys, Waitroses, M & S, or Tescos etc. they set the guidelines which are reflected in the Farm Assurance programmes NZ farmers must adhere to and document. These are world class because they also include conditions set by markets in Asia and North America, in fact around a countries.
What NZ farmers don't have to the extent of the UK, is the public wandering through our businesses completely unaware of normal animal behaviour having grown up thinking animals speak English and Foxy Loxy is actually a vegan.

They'll never completely get rid of subs,as look at all the white collar workers that are employed by the government. Do you really think that they'd let farmers do what they'd want with their land? No dictatorship ?

They haven't got TB for a start

Again rubbish. Suggest you google TB Free NZ. This is a world leading example of disease eradication.
Most of NZ was infected with Bovine tuberculosis around 15 years ago. Infected herds have dropped now to very low levels with over 85% of infected areas now clear. It has been a major problem in cattle and farmed deer. Farmers are major contributors to funding the eradication scheme.
The plan is to have the disease eradicated by before 2025.
This has been done by reducing the number of vector animals, very tight controls on animal movements and regular testing for reactor animals in regions where the disease has been recently eradicated or still a work in progress.

That's a load of rubbish. Welfare is no better here than in nz. In fact nz cows live twice as long as UK cows

Are you sure about that 'fact'? IIRC, the average number of lactations is fairly similar between UK & NZ, but the NZ lactation length is shorter on average, on account of them being so much more efficient :rolleyes:with their block calving systems.

LE Bon paysan was saying that nz cows dont have TB, NOT the other way round.

medicines in nz are way cheaper.
Afraid not! I'm currently working in NZ and I would say most medicines are more expensive except for the big volume purchases- drenches etc. e.g. 100ml betmox $58
Welfare I would say was on par with UK - a lot less climate related diseases for one, average SCC is lower here but lameness is an issue in some of the larger dairy herds.

Climate is the one big advantage that NZ has over UK. Drug prices etc are much less significant
