Do oats do much in a cover crop mix?

Yes, expect so. More likely than peas.
Still some ground to plant after spring barley and would like to put beans in there as per my previous post. If any opinions on seed rates?
I think your mix of "30kgs/acre of beans plus 10 of vetch and 20 of oats" sounds fine too me without knowing the soil etc. Should be quite cheap too if you have the beans and the oats in the shed.

I put in black oats in my mix and reckon they are worthwhile. They grow to twice the size of normal oats or rye volunteers and are the first thing the cattle eat. Expensive though!
