My late father used to say the above.
Now I am 70 I am wondering if what father said is partly true , as I have been wearing wellies all winter and as my legs ache. Perhaps I should say is it one of the reasons my legs ache.

Just like any other footwear, there’s a great difference in comfort between brands, I’ve certainly had uncomfortable shoes and boots and find some brands of wellies downright uncomfortable too.
I am sure that theory will be well supported by any associated with looking afte oudoorpigs.

Sorry to state the obvious - 70 - i'm early 60's and my legs started to ache beginning of this winter, wearing a pair of sport support stockings helped,
but after a bit of research online, it was recommended that you do a simple exercise - heel raises - after dressing in the morning, and i've gotten into
the habit of doing approx. 10-12 heel raises when drying my hands. It's worked for me , no leg pains and i don't need to wear the support stockings,
which were a right F*****rs to get on.

Everybody's experience of footwear is different isn't it? I find my wellies are almost my most comfortable things, only bettered by a pair of leather boots that I hardly ever get the chance to wear because of the weather and because I am a stock farmer. Putting enough foot beds inside wellies helps a lot for me, raises my foot so it fills the welly better and and gives better shock protection. Dunlop Puroforts.

Climate change foot emergency. Back in the good old days it was trainers ( arable farmer ;) ) all summer, wellies in winter. Now it's wellies all year round, apart from the mini droughts we get in May. getting through 2 pairs per year. Why is it always the R/H one that splits ?🤷‍♂️

i suffer from fallen arches wich is due to years of wearing wellies according to the podiatrist. when it first happened it was bloody sore on the feet. had to get special insoles which cost £300. i have to wear them all the time now so get your feet seen to before the permanent damage is done.

I reckon that basically anyone 30+ years old should be doing yoga or pilates regularly to maintain joint flexibility and muscle tone. I'm nothing like as flexible as I was and I know it.

I do think buying cheap or non-anatomical footwear does not help matters.

Find wellies that fit you better and spend good money on them. I don't think I wore anything other than wellies all last year, even in the summer. I find wellies wick the moisture away from your feet better than other boots when it's hot.

Always have at least two pairs so you can wash the insides out when necessary..... nothing worse than dirty smelly feet in wellies.

I'm only young but through various sporting / stupid moments and injuries my knees and ankles are fairly messed up so I struggle with wearing wellies as they don't provide enough support. I wear a pair of these boots which are much better. With a zip as well they make them easy to put on and off so I don't think I've touched the laces since I first bought them! Ok they might not be as high as normal wellies but they are as high as my pair of rigger boots so reasonable unless you have very very deep bogs! And yes I am a livestock farmer and have walked through yards before scraping etc...
