Set the sliding bolt beside the v of vetmarker right to the top for 20 ml if you are using the fly spray. It works very well. And don’t pansy about lowering the lambs if you are. The spray works best if you give the lever a right pull !

What are the advantages of doing tail docking this way? Seems to me a lot of back breaking work getting sheep in and manually catching every lamb lifting it onto these cutes. We only lamb 200 ewe lambs outside but my brother pops round and puts rings on them twice a day at lambing on his own and there’s less stress on the lambs or ewes. Our ewes are lambed in doors in feb

All outdoors here. Used to just ring at a day old, but I was spending most of my days chasing lambs about, and sometimes the new smell of shyte off my leggings / spray caused rejections. As a 1 man show here , I now observe, and intervene with the ones needing a hand etc. Pens set up the other day, my 2 neighbours, my 2 kids set sail and actually was really nice to have a bit of craic with them. 2 mobs of 220 ewes n lambs rung/fly/worm/vit.
Then a beer and a bacon roll !
Community spirit at its best!👍

I'm somewhere inbetween. Ring the singles as I go, plus any that come inside, but tail the twins after lambing. I have enough chasing after lambs tagging up the recorded Easycares! If I was lambing bigger numbers of commercial ewes outside I would certainly be tailing later.

I takes seconds to ring and mark lambs. People to seem to like to make a job that they can buy a special bit of kit for.

I’m looking to use a chute this year for doing lambs but will be begging, stealing or borrowing one until I find out how things go.
I lamb inside but this year I didn’t do anything to the lambs other than number at turnout. It meant that
Lambs could go out 12-24 sooner
Less losses due to miss mothering
Less issues with joint ill
Less antibiotic use
Less stress in the lambing shed
Lambs have to be handled in the next week or so for clostridial vaccinating anyway and a chute will be easier for that job, think mini combiclamp👍🏻
Work with a couple of neighbours to do the job, community spirit and a bit of craic
