Watering can and sprinkle to find the leak, make it suck.
Granted it might take an IBC full to find it, but you might be lucky.
Gland on shaft?

Okay thanks will have a go tomorrow, was a small amount of slurry come out of front of impeller last time I used it on Monday and it didn't prime straight away too is thus likely to be the problem? Pump is 3 years old and use it twice a week to empty 115 m2 dirty water pit which comes from parlour and collection yard.

we've got 2 27 pumps and both need new mechanical seals, dreading ringing for price after we fitted one to a Bauer pump a few years ago, I think it was £400ish

Had a quick look and found one for a Hd pump for £275.

will look, slurry went it to pipe but just was pulsing, there shouldn't be any plastic as tank is emptied twice a week to bottom.

definitely check then, could be a stone, potato, fodder beet, lump of silage or plastic or anything else, doesn't take much could be string around the impeller shaft

Should I just stick the volley washer down the outlet then have a fish around? Stones could be likely as very stoney farm.

Another thing maybe worth a look is the O-ring on your suction pipe, or maybe a split in the suction pipe? You dont happen to be using say the slurry tanker pipe rather than the usual one for the pump? been there done that.... pump i am used to doesnt like anything other than a genuine Bauer coupling on it.

yeah get the volume washer in and clean it right up, get a torch in the back,

could be a split in the suction pipe, sometimes when you prime it and listen around the suction hose you can hear the air leaking, grab some mud and seal it up

O ring was changed a couple of weeks ago and I can't use tanker pipe as quick couple onto hi spec (y)

Did have pump backup to edge of tank so about a meter of pipe was above slurry, did listen for air leak around pipe but didn't hear anything, but may try mud to seal it

Is there a swan neck on top of pump?? Can sometimes get a small blockage in there that will make it surge etc..also worth checking around where change over tap from prime to pump is..
