Beetles are probably twice the length of the bottom of a barley. The piece of hull looks to be less than half so it’s scale is about right. If the bit I think you mean is part of a barley hull then this beetle is huge!

That wont happen unless all you farmers stop selling to them or back the hauliers in getting detention pay. Many of these tips now need to get in the real world and invest in some proper storage instead of using lorries as temporary storage. It’s ridiculous.
I wouldn’t grow spring barley if we didn’t have central storage, ergot allowed levels have tightened. Colour sorters running 24/7 for numerous crops. All Maltsters are crooks, they reject loads as and when it suits them, for various spurious reasons.
we know they do it and they know we know but not a lot we can do about it really.
for 2022 I voted with my feet and won’t be growing malting barley. Frontier seem to be unable to shift it in a timely manner either which makes matters worse.
Yep. And overall a haulage charge of around £15/t for that 30t. Who do they think can afford to just write off £450 for no reason!Good news. But what a waste of everyone's time, and diesel.....
Surprised the weighbridge didnt raise an eyebrow when same lorry went through an hour or so later.Yep. And overall a haulage charge of around £15/t for that 30t. Who do they think can afford to just write off £450 for no reason!
It didn’t. That load came back to farm and more loads including that went over the next few days. The haulage cost was the price of delivery and then returning it to farm.Surprised the weighbridge didnt raise an eyebrow when same lorry went through an hour or so later.
