Does cutting rushes once a year get you a payment.

A couple of my neighbours have bought new toppers and started topping the hole place once a year late june/July, mostly rushes, some fields alot some only afew, but this costs fuel and the machinery, so is this a steward ship thing or not, l stay up in Scotland, l don't think they would do it just to pass the time.

there used to be a rush sub on the LMO part of the SFP
I foolishly thought, oooh free money i'll have some of that
anyway, by the end of the 5 year commitment there was more rush than grass in the grazing, so I said, stuff that I'm quitting rush farming. ironically probably spending as much on spray for years to get rid of the bloody things as I got in sub
careful what you agree to, there's usually as sting in the tail

In most Glastir classifications you can only top rushes if there are 'injurious weeds' present. That means thistles, bracken etc. Other ones prescribe no more than one third each year, after mid July.
